I loved Steve more than my own flesh and blood brothers…he was loyal and truly had a good heart…50 years we were friends…we joined the United States marine corps together…I can never forget him or those awesome days of thunder…we left Austin on an epic adventure together and ended up in the marines…the truth!!! Steve is and was my only friend in life…not many men say to each other…” I love you brother”…but we did…I’m honored and I’m proud to have met Steve and that he was my friend…Steve was old school Austin…just a good dude…his dad was a good man too…there is so much I could say about Steve!!! I know a lot of old south Austin guys…but Steve was the real deal man!!! Humble and down to earth…he loved his family, he loved his daughters and I know this as we had conversations about it…I was proud of Steve for that…he was an outdoorsman extraordinaire!!! He does not know this…but I learned so much from him in our days and I always looked up to him!!! He was my friend and I miss him so much already…he was the real deal…”howdy howdy”…I’ll never forget that greeting…my friend and brother!!!!!!
SEMPER FIDELlIS MY BROTHER!!! I love you Steve!!! You were a true friend!!! David Waechter

My last memory of Uncle Steve was eating bacon that he cured/smoked himself. I appreciate what time I did get to spend with him and he’ll definitely be missed.

I met Steve when I moved to Austin 13 years ago. My favorite memories of him are all the stories he used to tell. He will be greatly missed. I love you dad.

My dad raised my boys like his own! They were always doing something together. Mainly fishing. One day in 2008 they got put in the American Statesman while out fishing with my dad at Lady Bird Lake! R.I.P Daddy!

We have so many memories with Steve and Dawn. My favorite time was the weekend we spent camping and fishing at lake Conroe. I remember when Steve told us to hop in the boat and go to the store at the dock, thanks for soaking me steve... we love and miss you every single day.

Uncle Steve you were always there for us. When we were hungry, needed rides to school, when we were board you would drive us all to 5 mile dam . We have also learned so much from you. We helped build an out door shower, out door brick oven, dug our little hearts out to make a bad ass pond !!!! And the GREEN ROOM WAS AWESOME! You tough us about aquariums and how to take care of fisheys ( not all of us can keep them alive lol) but we tried. Your garden, fig tree, peach tree and so much more. Now as a parent I can take the knowledge I have learned from you and hope to share with my kids. You tough me how to spit ..
Lol gross right? We had fun seeing who could spit the farthest. Also we made up our own language. Wow , how I'm going to miss you. I love you and I promise I will never forget you ❤️ until we meet again
Holli may ( short stuff, little bit)
