To the family of Bertie, I am so sad to learn of the passing of your mom, I met Bertie at Fulmore Jr High so we became back then and of course I remember her as a sweet friend being 13 - 14 yrs old at the time. As we were about to enter high school, I was designated to attend Johnston High School. So there was a separation during our high school years. Regained our contact when she married your dad, Benny Salinas. Sweet couple. I later learned she and Benny lived on Spotted Horse just down the street from me. May you rest in peace Bertie.

I was blessed to have some of the best aunts and many fond memories from childhood to the present. Aunt Birdie was absolutely the best of the best. Such a beautiful person inside and out—always so loving, caring and thoughtful. I kind of feel like when she spoke, I was floating on a cloud; listening to her sweet calming voice and her laughter. She was always so caring, thoughtful and funny. After Mom died, she would call to see how we were doing and reminisce with us. It meant more than you know. She would call often just to share her day, updates on family and her wellness. I will miss those calls. She was a great Christian and loved our Lord. I have no doubt those pearly gates were wide open and the many loved ones who have gone before us were waiting there for her arrival. I can only imagine the joyous celebration full of happiness, laughter and love – oh! and with mariachis playing. Especially, her reuniting with Uncle Benny.
“I know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories.” —Leo Buscaglia
This I know to be true. Aunt Birdie was a great example of a daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. She lives on through you Missy and Benito and all the life lessons she taught you and those you have yet to discover in her physical absence.
She remains with you because aside from your Father, you two where the loves of her life—that was evident. Take comfort in your memories. Please know we love and are here for you both as you move forward in your new normal. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the family as you grieve. We love you!
