Obituary of Miguel "Michael" Sanchez
Michael "The Mailman" Sanchez, of Austin, Texas, was called home to our Heavenly Father on Friday, December 30, 2022.
He was born on April 9, 1948 in Austin. Michael's lineage likely predates Texas. When asked, "Where are you from originally?" The Sanchez elders would reply, "We are from here".
Michael grew up in Old East Austin, graduated from Austin High School in 1968, then voluntarily enlisted in the United States Army. In 1969, Michael completed a one-year combat tour on the Mekong Delta in Vietnam, and was honorably discharged in 1971 having achieved the rank of E-5 Specialist.
After eight years with the Texas Parks and Wildlife, Michael began his illustrious 40-year career with USPS as the Eastside's Mailman.
The hallmarks of Michael's life were service and devotion-service to his country and the Eastside community, devotion to his identity as a Vietnam Vet, devotion to baseball, as well as a UT Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys football fan, devotion to God, and devotion to his beloved family.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Flavio Sanchez, Sr., and mother, Eva R. Sanchez; his siblings, William "Bill" Sanchez, Flavio Sanchez, Jr., Inez, and Francisco "Frank".
Michael is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Theresa Bernal-Sanchez; his children, Michael James, Barbara Michelle, and Stephen Nathan; his siblings, Carlos, Theresa, Cecilia, Anthony, and Pauline Mitchell; nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Victoria Sanchez, Tony Sanchez, Elena Sanchez, Jake Bloomquist, Jon Bloomquist, Garrett Misener, William Mitchell, and Ryan Woods.
