We had many great times with Mike throughout our lives, so many I can’t count. He was a great brother to have growing up, he was always joking and happy. When he wasn’t playing ball, he was playing pool at the Salvation Army Youth Center. We used to hang out there a lot since it was so close to our house. He went to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic School and played baseball there, I remember once when he and Carlos came home singing we won, we won, we won! He later went to Austin High and the maroons became his team, then the Texas Longhorns and the Dallas Cowboys. To me he was Mr. Sports in our family, Michael always was into sports. Later he went into the army and was sent to Vietnam, I remember when we saw him leaving at the airport and watched fly off in his plane. The next thing I know, we were writing him and he’d write back, promising to take us the A&W root beer when he got back for a frosted root beer and he did. Also later on, he’d sometimes pack us in his corvair and take us to high school before he went to work and on weekends take us to Pease Park to play ball. I really do think I got involved with liking football because of Mike. Later on when I got married Michael was there for me and I will always treasure his presence. Yes, growing up with an older brother like Michael was a gift and I will always think God for that gift.

Our family will miss Michael. We will remember Michael. We will hold Michael in our hearts. Michael will live forever on our hearts.
“I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.”

Mere words cannot express the true character that my cousin possessed. He was kind, caring, compassionate, and displayed an enduring love for everyone! Everyman has a responsibility, Michael took it one step further. He called me right after my father passed away. He told me many beautiful things about my dad. I will miss you Cuz.
