We didn't see each other often, but we've known each other forever. I had two great visits with Robert that would have been kodak moments if we would have had cell phones back in the day.
A group of us who go back to diaper land were visited when he told everyone, "You think we were poor, Red and his brothers were really poor."
On a patrol in Vietnam, him in the army and me in the marines, there was a jeep coming our way on a dusty dirt road. As it passed me I yelled, "Robert, hey carbrone, what are you doing out here in the middle of nowhere? He answered, "que chaingas, what are you doing here, Felipe?" We were both so excited to see each other. He kept telling the gunny, "look at him, Gunny, he ain't a white boy, he's a Mexican from back home." We started speaking in Spanish and couldn't believe that we were seeing each other and had managed to run into each other in the middle of war. It is such a small world. He drove off and I ran off to catch up with the Cap Unit Patrol.
Robert was a great diaper land witness for me. I'm going to miss Robert. He was a great witness of my life.
