Obituary of Guadalupe "Shorty" Garcia Ortiz

Guadalupe "Shorty" G. Ortiz the legend, a gift from God, has been called home to sing with the Angels leaving us forever receorded in our minds. Shorty's music, smile and kindness will forever reverberate in our hearts. Shorty served in the military and was Honorably discharched in 1973. 

Shorty left us on Saturday, September 5, 2020, born December 18, 1941 in San Marcos, Texas. 

Shorty was preceded in death by his wife Janie Quiroz; grandson, Anthony; and parents Alberto and Santos Garcia; brother Jose, and sisters Blasita, Angelina, Rosa and Francisca. 

Shorty is survived by his sons, Anthony, his wife Laura, and Christopher; granddaughters, Samantha, Mary, Carolina; grandsons, Christopher Jr., Drew, John Eric; great-grandsons, Joe Angel and Bo Anthony; brothers, Pedro and Alberto; sisters, Modesta and Isabel; significant other, Yolanda Natal; step-children and grandchild. 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2020, from 3:00 p.m to 9:00 p.m., with Recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m., at Mission Funeral Home-East, 1615 E. Cesar Chavez St., Austin, Texas 78702.

Funeral Mass will take place the following morning, Friday, September 18, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. at Nuestra Senora de los Dolores Catholic Church, 1111 Montopolis Dr., Austin, Texas 78741.

Due to the Coronavirus /  COVID-19 Restrictions from the City of Austin,

Visitation is limited in capacity.

The funeral home chapel has restricted occupancy to 50% of its maximum; about 60 persons. 

Please remember to exercise social distancing as often as possible for your safety and the safety of those around you. 

Each person entering the funeral home is required to have a mask

and practice social distancing of 6 feet or more. 

The family is so grateful to everyone for their understanding, love, and support

during this very difficult time.
