Josie: Tommie and I were saddened to learn of John's passing. It's still hard to believe. John was the first one to welcome us to the neighborhood when we moved in. He was always kind and when he saw our grandkids he would stop and talk with them. I remember many lighthearted conversations but once I was outside raking leaves which is a never ending job and he called over to me and said: I think the leaves are winning! We laughed. He was right. He will surely be missed. Our heartfelt condolences go out to you and your family. If we can help with anything, don't hesitate to ask. God bless you all.

I am so,so,sad to see this. John was one of my favorite people at Seton. He was kind, funny and he made a difference in so many lives. One of my memories of him was when one of our Clinical Assistants was pregnant with triplets. She had difficulty even walking from the parking garage. I spoke to John and that same day, he made arrangements for her to park in FRONT of the hospital. He never failed to smile, and greet me whenever I saw him. I want his family to know that he was truly a person that I was honored to know. RIP John. You will be missed by many.

John, what a gift you were to all of us. Your expertise, integrity, sense of humor, kindness, and gentle spirit was a model for all. Your photos of our daughter's wedding have a special place in our living room. I cherish the memories of our years working at the hospital. I will miss you, my friend.

When our family first moved to Austin from Lubbock, my cousins John and Josie were among the first to welcome us to town. They were very hospitable and we immediately started to feel at home. Growing up I had a nickname, Cookie, but John decided he was going to call me Cake. I have always remembered that and it was very special to me. I will miss him and hearing his voice and his sense of humor. My biggest regret is not seeing him on a regular basis. We did communicate through Facebook but it just isn’t the same. I love you and will miss you!

John was my good friend and mentor at Seton. For many years John ensured the safety of patients, visitors, and staff at Seton Medical Center. Some of the more well known people he protected included Lady Bird Johnson and George W. Bush.
John’s heart was as Big as Texas and he embodied the values of the Daughters of Charity.
