Maria Chavez invited my husband Jerry Spoon and I into her family back in 1996 and ever since we've been blessed to be
a.part of their many family celebrations. We lived next door to her and Juan when Jerry worked out of our home. One day when he was working outside, she brought him some breakfast tacos; he was overwhelmed by her kindness and he thanked her and started to put them down, saying he would eat them later. She looked him straight in the eye and told him no, you eat now - she often brought
him tacos after that. She affectionately referred to him as her "gringo" son. Although Maria and I didn't speak the same language, there was no language barrier for the love and respect that we had for each other. She also treated our daughter Rachel (who was 4 at the time) like one of her own granddaughters. Rachel would occasionally go over to Maria's with Jerry and would come home with some trinket that Maria had given her & she'd be so excited to show me and ask me to help her pick out a special place in her room to display it. She will always have a special place in our hearts and we will miss her terribly. She was one of God's angels who walked among us and he has now called her home. We find comfort
in knowing that one day we will see her again. Thank you, Maria, God bless you..
