Obituary of Rosaura Amezquita

Please share a memory of Rosaura to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
There will be rejoicing in heaven as our mother Rosaura S. Amezquita joins our father and three of their children. A resident of Austin and San Antonio, our beloved mother was called by our Heavenly Father on Thursday, December 3, 2015. She will be dearly missed, but we know that in passing, she has regained her life. Our mother was cherished by many. Affectionately known as Wella, she was the perfect example of what a mother and wife should be. She loved her family more than anything and taught us so much. She was a consummate Longhorn fan—football, basketball, and baseball…if it was Texas, she was for it. Known for her way around the kitchen, our mother will always be remembered for the meals she lovingly prepared for her family—the ones that only she could make. You’ve never had chilaquiles and eggs or “chilito” until you had hers. Wella always enjoyed cooking with Wello. At Thanksgiving, she made the turkey, and he made the giblet gravy and dressing. They worked in tandem, doing everything together, and now they can again. She also made the best tamales. In the mid-1960s she made tamales from our home on 9th and Lydia St. in East Austin to supplement the family’s income. Then her three oldest children would go door-to-door selling them. In the early 1970s, our parents opened a commercial wholesale and retail factory, Rosita’s Tamales, located on South Lamar and Riverside Blvd. In the early 1980s, Rosita’s Tamales went strictly wholesale as the business moved to Cooper Lane in South Austin. Rosita’s Tamales was a mainstay in Austin until its doors closed in 2012. Rosaura was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Louis Amezquita, her children, Louis Amezquita, Joseph Amezquita, and Rosita A. Villegas; her parents, Jose and Marian Salas; and her brothers and sisters. Her legacy of love will continue through her children, Albert Amezquita (Margaret), Steven (Stacy), and Michael (Patricia), her daughters-in-law Rebecca and Hermelinda, 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Our family would like to include a special thanks to the sisters and staff at St. Francis Nursing Home in San Antonio for the loving care they showed our mom, especially Sylvia, her guardian angel. A celebration of Rosaura’s life will begin at 5:00PM, Monday, December 7, 2015, with Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00PM, at Mission Funeral Home, 1615 E. Cesar Chavez St. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Alzheimer’s Association by visiting www.alz.org.
