For a short time during middle school I was living with my grandparents and I was able to see Grandma Rosie pretty often. One of the first things that comes to mind when I think of Grandma Rosie are those dresses she would always wear. I swear she had one in every color and they were usually covered in some kind of flowery pattern or design and I can't help but point out how fitting that is, not just cause of her name, but because anyone that had the pleasure of knowing Grandma Rosie knew that she was a person who just blossomed with kindness and love.
I think back to a couple times when she'd share her thoughts with me and tell me stories while I'd sit next to her in her room quietly listening, being too young to truly appreciate how special those moments where. The times that really stand out in memory are the times Rosie would look after me anytime my mom would go out with my grandparents during the week and I'd have to stay home. I especially remember the time I was asleep in bed and the house alarm began to go off, out of the blue, and startled me. I sat straight up in my bed, scared, and then a few moments later I heard Grandma Rosie from downstairs calling my name to check on me and tell me it was a false alarm. I remember how comforting her voice was and how she made room for me that night to sleep with her in her bed so I wouldn't be scared. It would've been so easy to let the alarm finish ringing and just hope that I was still in bed doing alright but that's just not the kind of person Grandma Rosie was.
I also can't forget to mention some funny moments we shared. To this day we still laugh about the time my grandparents went out of town and left Rosie, my mom, and me to housesit. They wouldn't leave too often but whenever they did we would all look forward to sitting around the living room and binge watch crazy Lifetime Network movies together. There was one time, however, when I decided I could really go for some macaroni and cheese so I got up from the movie and put the Easy Mac in the microwave for a few minutes and then returned to the living room. In less than a minute we noticed a heavy smell of smoke which was followed soon after by a cloud of the black smoke causing the smell. In less than one second after noticing, both my mom and I were rushing to pull out the burnt mac and cheese (turns out I forgot to add water-whoops) and get the microwave to stop spewing out smoke and, of course, just to add to the chaos, this incredibly loud fire alarm (much more alarming and louder than the previously mentioned house alarm) began whaling through the house just to ensure that everyone in the 210 was aware that I had managed to mess up a two-step process.
After we finally remembered the ancient code that turns the alarm off, we opened all the windows and sat down to try to peacefully continue our movie (It was the Titanic if I remember correctly). At first we sat down really shook up and I was fighting back tears from what I caused when all of the sudden Rosie starts cracking up in laughter at what had just happened. It was the perfect relief after such a stressful event. Something as simple as some innocent laughter from her helped us get over what happened and move onto our movie night. Not too long after we faintly heard sirens that were undeniably getting louder and closer by the second. As if my poor little 8-year-old self hadn't been humiliated enough, a group of fire fighters came to the door. I have no clue how they knew to come, I guess the fire alarm calls the station after going off for a while, but they gave me a nice little talk about fire safety and left. The feelings of embarrassment came back and I began to cry after realizing I almost caused a house fire. We sat down. Once again, my mom and I both silent and once again, Grandma Rosie broke the silence and said, "Those firefighters were pretty good looking." The tears were replaced with laughter and we enjoyed the rest of our night watching movies. Many years later, that memory still crosses my mind every now and then and without fail still gets a good chuckle out of me.
These memories are just a few of the many examples of Grandma Rosie's big heart, sincerity, and lightheartedness.
I'm so thankful that God gave Rosie many years on Earth for us to enjoy with her but I guess he got a little selfish and decided he wanted her as one of his angels now! Thank you, Grandma Rosie, for your thoughtfulness and your love. I've finally earned my Easy Mac privileges back and I hope you're up in heaven chuckling to yourself too next time I go to the kitchen to make some.
I look forward to the day I'll see you again.

My condolences to Mike, Pat, and all the family in this time of sorrow. Hoping all can rejoice at the memories of "Wella" through the years, especially on the special occasions where she showed her love for
all by cooking those special meals and treats. God needed a good cook and he chose Wella to full fill that
need. She is now in a better place, setting the table for all that went before her.

Dear Michael and Pat,
Melissa shared your email with me. Michael,I want to express our sympathy in your Mother's passing. She sounds like she was a very precious lady. It is a joy for her and you because you know where she is now, however; it is still painful for you and your family. I don't care how old they are, it is hard to lose our parents.. Please know that you and your family will continue to be in our prayers.
Love,

Wella was a beautiful person inside and out. She was the most loving, hospitable, welcoming and of course she was no stranger to the kitchen. Her breakfast's (chilaquiles, chillito & papas) were amazing! She could cook up a storm in no time at all. She had a mother's loving & servant's heart. She always wanted to cook and serve her loved ones with so much passion and joy. She was a 2nd mother to me. She will always hold a very special place in my heart. I will never, ever forget her. May she rest in peace in the loving arms of Jesus Christ where she is complete of sound mind and restored again. She is truly loved and will be deeply missed.
