Maxine Rios Mendez 1911-2007 On Saturday, September 8, 2007, our mother, Maxine Rios Mendez, completed her journey on this earth and has gone to her rest in the hope of rejoicing with our Lord Jesus forever in Heaven. She was born to Merced and Narcissa Rios on May 29, 1911, in Luling, TX. Our father, Abel Mendez, Sr. preceded her in death, infant son Gabino Mendez, grandson Rene Tello and granddaughter Monica Mendez. She is survived by sons Abel Mendez, Jr. (Billie), Lee Mendez, Raul Mendez (Angelina), daughters, Irene Tello (Frank), Margarita Mercado (Arturo), Stella Brittnacher (Jim), Connie Gonzales and Rachel Ramos; 27 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and three great, great- grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters Emma Arizmendez and Maria Inez Castillo and brother Ralph Rios. Three brothers and one sister preceded her in death. Pallbearers will be Abel Mendez, Jr. represented by son Michael Mendez, Raul Mendez, Lee Mendez, Frank Tello represented by Rusty Tello, Arturo Mercado and Jim Brittnacher. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe D. Martinez ,Ray Mendoza and grandchildren. We wish to thank all her caregivers, Carlota Garza, Ms. Stella Zamarron, J. B. Masterson, R.N. with Oddyssey Hospice and Oddyssey staff and Ms. Maria Arredondo with Interim Healthcare and Interim Healthcare staff. Our thanks also to Mr. Jesus Zamarron and Lupe Rivera for keeping her lawn manicured. Mom used to spend hours working on her flower beds up until she was 92 years old. Recitation of rosary 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Mission Funeral Home Serenity Chapel 6204 South First St. (South). Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday 10:00 a.m. at Cristo Rey Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
