Julio Cenon Galvan, Sr.
1929-2007 Julio Cenon Galvan, Sr. (J.C.), Senior Chief Petty Officer United States Navy Retired, reported to the Supreme Commander our Lord on 10 June 2007.
Julio was born on April 12, 1929 in Austin, Texas to Nazario and Benita Galvan.
Julio joined the United Sates Navy in 1947, serving honorably for 2 years before returning home and graduating from Austin High School in 1951.
Julio re-entered the United States Navy in November 1951 and was selected for submarine duty. He spent the next 28 years serving the country he loved. He never wavered in his respect for the military way of life he had chosen. He served the majority of his career in the submarine force, serving on seven submarines. Two of them were nuclear submarines; however, his heart was with ?Diesel Boats Forever.? He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a defender of our country and way of life. Julio enjoyed life to the fullest with his family and friends. He loved to spend time in the outdoors, particularly fishing with his sons.
He is survived by his wife Pilar and two sons, David Manuel and wife Nora, Pflugerville, Texas and LT. Julio C. Galvan, Jr. and wife Lisa of Kingsville, Texas; four grandchildren, David Manuel, Jr. (DJ) and Andrea Marie Galvan of Pflugerville, Texas and Jake Coby and Luke Austin Galvan of Kingsville, Texas; brother Jesse Galvan and wife Delfina of Garland, Texas; Aunt Janie Sanchez and husband David; and, numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Joe T. Sifuentes, Manuel C. Sifuentes, Gerald Galvan, Joe Galvan, Rene Galvan, and Jay Galvan.
A rosary will be held Tuesday, 7:00 p.m. at Mission Funeral Home Serenity Chapel 6204 South First Street. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Father Joseph Deane on Wednesday,10:00 a.m. at Santa Cruz Catholic Church in Buda, Texas. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
