On Tuesday, May 29, 2007, I lost the love of my life, my best friend, my reason for being, Flavio Sanchez,.Jr. Forever will I hold your memory and love in my heart. After a six year battle with cancer he still had a smile on his face for everyone. He had enough courage for all of us. Courage is being scared to death but saddling up anyway... John Wayne per Tim Dzuik MD. Born Oct. 20, 1946 in Austin, Texas to Flavio and Eva Sanchez, the second of ten children, Flavio was raised in a very loving family. Feeling responsible for 8 younger siblings since losing his father at an early age, he chose entertainment as one of his roles, showing movies in the backyard, for family and friends, and later at the Salvation Army. An Austin high graduate, he joined the Texas National Guard and later went on to Nixon Clay College to learn electronics. Projectionist by trade, he was a member of local theater and stagehands union, IATSE Local #205. Flavio worked at many theaters working over 25 years keeping the movies on the screen, at the Paramount, the Varsity, the State and drive-ins such as the Fiesta. He was head projectionist at the Highland Mall and the old Barton Creek theaters. When Flavio stopped working for the theaters he decided to turn his hobby of baking cakes into a business. For fifteen years he operated Beary Special Cakes where he was known for baking elaborate wedding cakes and quincea?era cakes. Flavio was preceded in death by his parents Flavio and Eva Sanchez, he is survived by his loving wife Cindy of 26 years, also survived by two daughters, Emily Brown, husband Derek, and Valerie Raven, husband Vance, also five grandchildren and one great granddaughter. In addition his brothers Bill, Michael and wife Terrie, Carlos and wife Anna, Frank, and Anthony and wife Elsa. Sisters, Pauline Mitchell and husband Robert, Cecilia, Theresa and Inez and sister-in-law Rosemary. Flavio is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews who will always remember how their Uncle Flavio let them into the movies for free, and gave them popcorn, candy and soda. Next to his wife, Flavio's constant companion was Snyder, who could always be found by his side. Flavio loved to travel, going to many Texas camping locations with family and friends and to Vermont, birth place of his wife. He very much enjoyed his daily visits from his neighbor and friend Lonnie. Serving as pallbearers are his brothers Bill, Michael, Carlos, Frank, Anthony and his brother-in-law Robert Mitchell. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Mission Funeral Home-Remembrance Chapel(Cesar Chavez). Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1:00pm on Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Rev. Fr. John Boiko. Internment will follow at Assumption Cemetery..
