Gregory Cazares Cano 1916-2007 On February 8, 2007, at the age of 90, Gregory Cazares Cano reached the sunset of his life. He was born in Luling, Texas on July 4, 1916.
He married the love of his life, Lucille Lafuente, and would have celebrated 67 years of marriage on February 15th. Greg and Lucille were the owners and operators of the Montopolis Taco Inn until their retirement in 1981.
Gregory answered the call to serve in World War II and served in the European Theatre. While in Germany he had the honor to play baseball for the Army 116th Division team and played in the Army European Division World Championship game.
He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Gregory Cano III and Michelle Renee Abeita; siblings Santiago Cano, Miguel Cano, Gertrude Davila, Luz Cano and Conception Davila.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife Lucille; son Gregory Cano Jr. and wife Linda; daughter Margaret Foster and husband Marlo (Brewton, AL) and daughter Irene Abeita and husband Robert;12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Recitation of rosary Sunday, 6:00 p.m. at the Mission Funeral Home Serenity Chapel 6204 South First Street. Mr. Cano will Lie in State 9:00 a.m. Monday at the Assumption Cemetery Mausoleum.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday 10:00 a.m. at Assumption Cemetery Mausoleum. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
