Obituary of Alicia Vasquez
Please share a memory of Alicia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Our beloved mother went to her final resting place in heaven during her sleep on Thursday morning, September 28, 2006. Our mom was born July 13, 1925 in Houston, Texas. At a young age her family moved to Saltillo Mexico. There her parents nurtured a love for learning that instilled in her a passion for reading and writing. After finishing her education to become a journalist she dedicated her life to Jesus Christ and became a missionary. She traveled with a mission team throughout South and Central Texas serving numerous Hispanic communities. She was a contributing author and editor to several religious publications. On April 19, 1952 she married Mauricio Vasquez of Austin who was widowed with seven children. Together Dad and Mom added seven more children to the family.
Our mother set a great example for making a happy home. She loved all her children and was our biggest cheerleader. The small fact that Momma Licha could not hear, did not stop her from being very active in our lives. She attended countless of PTA meetings, band concerts, school performances and ballgames always having time for what was important to her children. She made our home a haven always there to nurture our bodies, minds and spirits. No matter what time of the day you stopped by home you were always greeted by the great smelling aroma of home cooking delights and homemade tortillas. She gave of herself unselfishly each day and lived for us all. She took care of many of her grandchildren over the years. She was involved with the church?s ladies group and served in various capacities instructing the younger ones. She loved life and understood God?s purpose for it. The day before Easter 1990 she suffered a massive stroke that left paralyzed. For the first time in a very longtime she could no longer be the caregiver but needed to be taken care of. I appreciate my sisters Frances, Gloria, Becky, and Dorothy along with all of our spouses and children for helping us to care for her in her home for sixteen and half years.
Our Mom was preceded in death by Dad and two sons, Solomon and Joel Vasquez. She is survived by daughters, Anita Serrano and husband Alberto of Holland, MI, Teresa Marrero and husband Robert of Dale, TX, Frances Casarez, Austin, TX, Beatrice Patlan and husband Pedro, Austin, TX, Mary Hernandez Huerta and Carlos, Jacksonville, NC, Carmen Sanchez and Abelardo, Austin, TX son, Mauricio Vasquez and wife Sylvia of Lockhart, TX, daughters, Maria Alicia Larsen and husband Donald, Cedar Creek, TX, Gloria Guerra and husband Abelardo, Austin, TX, son Abraham Vasquez and wife Norma, Mesquite, TX, daughters, Rebecca Morales and husband Viviano, Austin, TX and Dorothy Cruz and husband Guadalupe of Austin, Texas.
Our mother was further blessed and survived by forty five grandchildren, sixty five great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and other relatives.
We would love to extend our heartfelt thanks to the church family of Templo Bethel for their unfailing devotion and love for our mother. We know she enjoyed the many visits to her home by the ladies of the church that would come and sing and minister to her spirit and always kept vigilantly praying for her over the many years.
