Obituary of Audrey Christine González

Please share a memory of Audrey to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Our beloved Audrey Christine González, age 59, was called to our Heavenly Father on Thursday, April 18, 2024. She Audrey Christine “Tina” “Kiki” González, 59, was born September 17, 1964, in Austin, Texas, to Teresa and Ishmael González. She went to rest with the Lord on April 18, 2024, after a brief yet courageous battle with (non-alcoholic) liver disease. She was Roman Catholic and attended the parishes of Santa Julia, Dolores, St. Catherine, St. Paul, St. Albert the Great, and St. Vincent de Paul. In her childhood, she appeared on the KLRU-produced children’s show Carrascolendas. She attended Govalle Elementary School in Austin, Smith Elementary School in Del Valle Independent School District, and Del Valle Junior High School where she was a twirler in the band. She graduated from Austin High School in 1983. While in high school, she participated in a foreign exchange program and lived with a host family in Elche, Spain. She played clarinet in the Austin High School Band. She enjoyed attending concerts with her high school friends -- including her local favorite Joe “King” Carrasco and the touring acts that come through the Erwin Center. She was especially proud that Joe “King” wrote the song Hola Coca-Cola for her. She was also a fan of conjunto music, in which her grandfather, Ismael González, was a legend, having played bass with Don Santiago Jimenez while writing or helping to write much of the now standard conjunto repertoire. She attended The University of Texas studying radio-television-film. While there she worked as a receptionist at KLRU-TV and served as a hostess to the country stars appearing on Austin City Limits. The Eddie Rabbit show, recorded on her birthday, ended with her receiving a kiss from the country star during I Love a Rainy Night. She graduated from UT in 2001 with a bachelor’s degree in RTF. Over the years, she held various office jobs but ultimately worked as a veteran’s adviser at Austin Community College. While there, she began studying nursing with the intention of being able to care for her parents’ future medical needs but had to suspend her studies when her own health became an issue. She had several dogs over the years including Ayesha, Christmas, Angel, Cuddles, and Cash. She was preceded in death by her father Ishmael Gonzalez. She is survived by her mother Teresa Olvera González, her brother, Christopher and his wife Elizabeth, her brother Christian and his wife Jodi, and nephews Eric Indiana, Michael Tiernan, Matthew Teagan, Julian Reyes Mahon, and great-niece Zara Indyana and great-nephew Ezio Amadeus. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family. Her family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and chaplains who treated her with loving care and dignity at Methodist Hospital: Specialty and Transplant in San Antonio. Pallbearers will be Eric Indiana González, Michael Tiernan González, Matthew Teagan González, Julian Reyes Mahon Gonzalez, David Delarosa, Jimmy Ullrich, and Daniel Torres. Honorary Pallbearer will be Ezio Amadeus González. Donations may be made to the Austin Humane Society, a charity that will plant a tree, the American Liver Foundation, or the charity of your choice.
