Obituary of Juan R. Perez, Sr.
Please share a memory of Juan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Our beloved father and friend Juan R. Perez, Sr., age 88, resident of Austin, Texas, was called home on Saturday, March 2, 2024. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
Juan was born in Cedar Creek, Texas, to Eulalio and Adelia Perez. He was the youngest of seven children. He served his country in the United States Army military, 1958 to 1959.
Juan was a master craftsman, restoring furniture to its original glory. He could make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
Our father and friend will live forever in the personal relationships he has created with each family member and friend. He will be remembered for his passion for racoon hunting; giving every child and grandchild the opportunity to experience hunting in the dark, so dark you could barely see your hand in front of your face; walking for miles to tree a racoon maybe, but it was the thrill of the hunt and race in who's dog was better or faster.
We will miss his ability to cook the amazing Chunky's with meat and cheese or just smothered in butter. He even taught us to make masa from scratch; grinding the corn was the hardest part because it would make you feel like your arms would fall off.
We will remember all the never-ending jokes, playing pranks on us and pulling on our toes till they popped. We will remember a man who and to be father, mother, grandfather. He was always able to speak to all of us at the same time in the same room and we all felt we were part of the conversation. He was our best support group. He was always supportive and encouraging in our difficult times of life. He will be truly missed.
Juan was preceded in death by his parents, Eulalio Perez and Adelia R. Perez; his son Juan Perez Jr.; his siblings, Mariano Perez, Trinidad Perez, Augustina Arroyo, Paula Gutierrez (Phillip), Reymundo Perez (Anita), and Conrado Perez; his first wife, Mary Alice Estrada, and his ex-wife, Patricia Perez; his son-in-law, Albert Sais.
Juan is survived by his children, Leon Perez (Rosario Manning-Perez), Eulalio Perez Sr., (Lina Lespron-Perez), Adrianne Perez and Charles Medrano, Adelia Ybarra (Jerry Ybarra), Lorlelei Sais, and his daughter-in-law Teresa Perez; numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and his sister Amada Perez.
