Obituary of Mauricio Vasquez, Jr.

Please share a memory of Mauricio to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mauricio Garcia Vasquez Jr., aged 73, who left us peacefully on January 4, 2024. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, godfather to 8, friend, and respected veteran. Mauricio was known for his generous spirit, playful heart, and unwavering love for his family.

Born on October 9, 1950, in Austin, Texas, to Mauricio Vasquez Sr. and Antonia Vasquez, Mauricio was also lovingly raised alongside his stepmother, Alicia Vasquez. A proud veteran, Mauricio served all together 30 years in the United States Air Force and in the 924th Air Force Reserve (ART) Unit, later continuing his career with the Federal Aviation Administration and the Texas Department of Transportation. Mauricio's dedication to public service was a testament to his character and integrity.

He married the love of his life and the girl next door, Sylvia Tovar Vasquez, and together, for over 43 years, they built a beautiful life filled with joy and laughter. He was a dedicated father to Mauricio Tovar Vasquez III (Annette) and Jessica Elyse Kuiken (Brian), and his role as a grandfather to Eleanor Silvia Kuiken (9), Madeline Joy Kuiken (6), Noah Hernandez (7), and Alejandro Hernandez (4) brought him immense joy.

Mauricio had a passion for life that was contagious. His red 1967 Chevy Camaro was far more than just a car, it is a symbol of his zest for life and youthful spirit. He cherished his beloved car and need for speed whether cruising down the road or admiring it in his garage where he always had an ongoing project.

Despite being visually and hearing impaired, Mauricio had a unique ability to hear the softest whisper of his wife Sylvia’s voice, showcasing their deep and unbreakable bond. He was a man of many stories, and his captivating tales will be fondly remembered by those who had the pleasure to hear them.

Mauricio was a cherished sibling to Anita Serrano (spouse Alberto), the late Teresa Marrero (spouse Robert), the late Frances Casarez (spouse the late Manuel), Beatrice Patlan (late spouse Pedro), Mary Hernandez (late spouse Matilde), Carmen Sanchez (late spouse Abelardo), Maria Alycia Larsen (late spouse Donald Larsen), Gloria Guerra (late spouse Abelardo Guerra), Abraham Vasquez (spouse Norma), the late Solomon Vasquez, Rebecca Morales (spouse Jose), and the late Dorothy Cruz.

Mauricio will be remembered for his generous nature, always putting others before himself and touching the lives of many with his kindness and compassion. He was a true friend and a guiding light to all who knew him.
