Our beloved father, Henry Maldonado, 81, was called to heaven  Nov.  15, 2023.

Henry was born August 24, 1942 and raised in Austin,TX. He graduated from Austin High School then joined the US Air Force. He served in Guam during the Vietnam War in Strategic Air Command as a Military Police Officer guarding B-52 bombers.

After his military service, He met his wife Beverly working at Tracor where she was the first female semi conductor operator. They married and transferred to California, then returned to Austin to give birth to their first child and be closer to family.

In 1967 after noticing the lack of Spanish music in Austin they took a leap of faith and opened what became the legendary Maldonado’s Record Shop followed by 2 more locations always staying loyal to East Austin. Henry also produced local talent on his record label Maldo-Records and was co-owner of Flamingo Ballroom with Omar Salinas.

They raised  their children Rovena, Henry ll, and Javier in Manchaca, TX. All 3 children worked in the family business.  Henry and Beverly held yearly toy drives for the children in East Austin, hosted autograph parties to bring Tejano artist closer to their fans and volunteered their time helping San Francisco Javier and Santa Cruz Catholic Churches introducing live music to the annual festivals bringing the community together and helping the churches reach their fund raising goals.  They retired from Maldonado’s Record Shop after 32 yrs. They enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, helping the church, participating in church clubs and organizations, and living life to the fullest. Henry was a loving husband of 57 years, devoted father of 3 and grandfather of 5. He was a man of strong faith and loved helping others.

He had a warm smile and a kind heart, always ready to offer advice or words of wisdom. He had a witty sense of humor. Henry lost the love of his life Beverly late 2018 to cancer. He continued his 17 yr.  battle with Parkinson’s never complaining. He moved to San Antonio in 2019 to Live with his daughter Rovena, who never left his side taking care of all his needs until he passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends.
