Obituary of Gloria Martinez Mares

Our beloved Gloria M. Mares, age 68, was called to our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, August 22, 2023.  Gloria was born January 15, 1955 in Austin, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Armando Mares, Sr.; her parents, Mateo Castro and Jesusa Martinez; her brother, Juan Martinez, and her sister, Sandra Castro-Vasquez.

Gloria is survived by her children, John Contreras, Jr. (Susan), Armando Mares, Jr. (Dorrie), Jose Mares (Angela), David Mares (Cecilia), Amanda Mares, and James Lowry; her treasured grandchildren, John Contreras III, Joe Moreno, Patricia Palomo, Luis Palomo, Mariah Salazar, David Salazar, Jr., Sesalanna Contreras, Sariah Salazar, Adrian Salazar, Jose D. Mares, Tomas Contreras, Rosaleah Mares, Gloria Contreras, Serenity Mares, and Ariel Mares; great grandchildren, Tru Palomo, Zavina Tambunga, Zachary Tambunga, Andrew Salazar and Promise Govea; her siblings, Margarito Martinez (Susan), Teresa Contreras (Tanis), Linda Perez, Irene Castro (Jose), Jesus Castro (Elena), Mateo Castro (Sepirina), Norma Castro, Lalo Castro, and Richard Castro (Yvonne) and numerous lother loving family members and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to LeAndrea Perez for her unwaivering dedication and care to Mrs. Mares.

Honored Pallbearers will be Joe Moreno, Tommy Contreras, John Contreras III, Luis "Lu" Palomo, Jose "Buba" Mares, Michael Sillero, Francisco "Paco" Sillero, and Adrian Salazar.

Visitation will be held from 4:00-9:00 p.m. with Recitation of Holy Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at Mission Funeral Home - South Side, 6204 S. First St., Austin, Texas.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 1, 2023 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 9th & Lydia, Austin, Texas.  Interment will follow at Capital Parks Cemetery, Pflugerville, Texas.
