Obituary of Benito Serrano

Our Beloved Benito Serrano, entered Eternal Rest on Friday, June 30th, 2023.  

Although born in Lockhart, Benito was raised in Austin and attended Martin and Johnson schools.  He proudly served our country as a member of the U.S. Navy, receiving an honorable discharge after finishing his tour of duty.  Following his time in the U.S. Navy, he returned to Austin and worked many years for Centex Gravel.  He was a member of Cristo Rey Catholic Church; was devoted and loyal to his family, and loved fishing, motorcycle riding and anything to do with outdoor activities.  He would be the first to tell you he lived a wonderful life.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

Benito is preceded in death by his daughter, Stacy Serrano; his parents, Victor Serrano and Jesusa Ramirez; his four sisters, Paula Castillo, Maria Ruiz, Alicia Zamarripa, and Benita Duran, and his four brothers, Brigido Serrano, Victor Serrano, Jr., Johnny Serrano, and Felix Serrano. 

Benito is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Refugia Ochoa Guerra Serrano; his children, Benny Serrano, Jr. (Yvonne), Trudy "TJ" Serrano, Earl Serrano (Jenny), Stacie Serrano, Ronnie Serrano, and Christopher Serrano; twelve grandchildren, BJ Serrano, Jr., Earl Serrano, Jr., Lauren Serrano, Michael Serrano, Chelsea Donald, Byron Guerra, Christopher Serrrano, Jr., Stacie Serrano, Briana Serrano, Christina Serrano, Aleya Serrano, Layla Serrano and eight great-grandchildren; his brother, Ernesto Serrano; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and many friends. 

The family of Benito would like to extend a special thank you to Benita, Mari, Byron and Benito, Jr. and to all who donated as well as the caring members of hospice.  May God bless each of you and your families.  Thank you.

Visitation Services will be held on Monday, July 10th, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Mission Funeral Home-East Side, 1615 E. Cesar Chavez, Austin Texas 78702.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 11th, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Cristo Rey Catholic Church, 2208 E. 2nd St., Austin Texas 78702.

Interment will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, 1104 N. Commerce St., Lockhart Texas 78644 with US. Navy Military Honors providing Taps and folding of the U.S. Flag for the Faithful and Honorable Service to our Country by Mr. Serrano.  

Rosary Service will be live-streamed via Mission - East Side Facebook Live.
