Vidal Vasquez Limon was born on April 28, 1936 in the farming community of Creedmoor, Texas. He
grew up on 5 th Street in East Austin. He was the 9 th child born into a family of 13. Vidal was a hard-
working and dedicated employee who believed in always arriving early to work and never missing a day.

He retired with the City of Austin Water and Wastewater Department in 1998 and again with the Texas
Department of Public Safety in 2007. Upon retirement, Vidal and Julia spent their time together
watching their grandchildren, going out to eat, and visiting family.

Vidal’s greatest passion was music. His interest in music came at an early age, listening to his uncles
play and sing. He bought his first guitar when he was 22 years old and taught himself to play by listening
to records and the radio. Once he began to play the guitar, he learned the words to songs and started
singing. In 1959, he wrote his first song entitled, “De Mi Nada Mas” followed by “Acabame De Matar,” a
song that continues to be recorded in Texas and Mexico. He received the Best In Texas award in 1978,
and the Idolos de Barrio Music Award in 2011 by Austin Latino Music Association. In 1984 he was
inducted into The Tejano Music Hall of Fame. He wrote and composed over a dozen songs throughout
his lifetime. He wrote his final song for his wife after she passed in 2022.

Vidal was a devoted, practicing Catholic, and an active member of Cristo Rey Catholic Church. In 1980,
he joined the choir, playing his guitar and singing at the 10 a.m. mass. He was a part of the Men’s Club,
Joy Group, Breakfast Club, and Jamaica Committee. He, along with his wife and sisters, would volunteer
their time to fundraise for the church. After 43 years, Vidal sang at his last mass in April and has now
joined the Heavenly choir. He will be greatly missed.

Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons, John Michael Flores, Pete Limon Gonzales, Nicholas Limon
Galvan, Daniel Esquivel; son in laws, Michael Flores and Richard Galvan. Honorary Pallbearers will be his
granddaughters, Jaclyn Flores Esquivel and Leanna Victoria Gonzales; and great-grandson Peter Noah
