Joe Montoya

Obituary of Joe Arthur Montoya

Please share a memory of Joe to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Our precious warrior Jose "Joe" Arthur Montoya, 82, of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully in his sleep and joined our Heavenly Father on Sunday, March 19, 2023.

Joe known to his customers as Mr. Montoya was a talented welder who started his business Montoya Iron Works in 1967 with a $1,000 loan. He created amazing handcrafted ornamental metal work, fencing, burglar bars and jaw dropping spiral staircases. His talents were endless and he stayed in business for 50 years.

In his spare time Joe was an avid golfer. He enjoyed playing rounds with his friends and family or even just heading to the park to hit some balls. He could often be found watching golf videos and practicing his swing. According to him he had in fact perfected both his swing and stance.

Our man of steel will forever be remembered. He had the most amazing smile and was always ready to pose for a picture. His pants were perfectly pressed and a more polished shoe could not be found. There is so much to admire about him - his love for his family, faith, strength, intelligence, integrity and of course sense of humor.

Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me." John 14:6

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Juanita O. Montoya; his grandson, Robert Martinez, Jr.; his siblings, Chema Montoya and Dora Gandara.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Delma "Mary" Montoya; his children, Mary Esther Lopez (husband Ted), Marjorie Montoya (partner Sandra Lynch), Melinda Montoya, and Monica Jean (husband James); his grandchildren, Jessica Martinez (husband Gus Ortlieb), Laura Lopez (husband Anthony Ortiz), Hannah Stokes (husband Paul), Ethan Joseph Jean, and Audrey Lopez; his great-grandchildren, Sophia Ortlieb, Gabriel Ortlieb, and Ariyah Ortlieb; his siblings, Henrietta Acuña (husband Daniel), and Johnny Montoya (wife Lupe); numerous nieces and nephews and many other loving family and friends.
