Sorry for the late posting of my memories of Sylvia. I just saw where she passed away. I am a little behind on things as at the same time last year (January 6 – 30, 2023) I was in ICU for a few days and rehab. At the same time she was struggling – so was I. I loved Sylvia – such a charming – warm – loving person. We played on the co-rec volleyball team with her and Al. Those were the good ole days. She was very competitive and could bump and set and serve and so reliable to “save the ball”. I can still in my memory see her sliding on the wood gym floor after going for a ball and see her setting and her serving. Those pictures are vivid in my mind still. She loved her family so much because when we had adult gatherings – she would give us updates. I remember visiting with her at so many of the SWBell gatherings where the ladies would talk in our circle and the men would visit in their circles. The music chosen for this tribute wall is so fitting for her and Al actually. I know that Al may feel lost without his Baby Doll – and hopefully the grandchildren will keep him occupied. Go rest high on that mountain – I know that Sylvia and Al both liked Vince Gill. Back in the day I remember Al saying once that he liked Vince Gill songs and then Sylvia spoke up with her affirmation as well. We thank you God for sending us Sylvia and I feel so blessed to have known her.

My family and I were very saddened to learn about Sylvia's passing. Sylvia was a person who made you feel like she was genuinely glad to see you. When you were around her, she made you feel like you were her best friend. I have known her family from my early years in Taft. She and my older sister were classmates throughout elementary and high school. Her brother Alfred and I participated in church choir activities. When I spent time in Austin, Sylvia and her husband Al frequently invited me to their home for a meal or just to visit. I remember that I was at their home when their baby daughter Sammy took her first steps. They were so elated! I will miss Sylvia very much. My heartfelt condolences go out to Al and their daughters. I know that Sylvia is now with her parents and her sister Elida, and they enjoy eternal happiness together. May her memory be a blessing and comfort to her family.

Betty and I are deeply saddened by the passing of our dear friend Sylvia. We have many wonderful memories we will cherish forever. Bus trips to Cowboy games, Trips to San Juan,
Christmas dances, birthday celebrations , Longhorn Baseball trip to Aggieland, meals at La Fuentes, Los Lomas and for the past several years invited us into their home for Thursday night supper!
We believe Angels of our Lord live among us and Sylvia is now one of them.

My heartfelt condolences to Silvia’s family. I knew her in HS where she was always pleasant and had a smile for everyone. Although she leaves a void in her family’s hearts, I believe she lives within her children. I pray God provides the family the comfort they need. May she rest in peace. Isabela Govea Zapata

My deepest heart felt condolences to the Guajardo Family and the Cortinas Family. I have know the Cortinas family and the Guajardo Family from child hood raised in the small cotton picking town of Taft, Texas. Her father would share car ride with my father to the Naval Base in Corpus. I would consider the Cortinas family. I would visit to their home with her brother Alfred and her mother would have fresh baked flour tortillas. Memories I will cherish for life time. RIP my dear friend.
