Obituary of John Ernest Cardenas

Our beloved John Ernest Cardenas, Jr.,  age 47, of Austin, Texas, was called to our Heavenly Father on Friday, December 16, 2022.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Ernest Cardenas, Sr.; his nephews, Christian John Anthony Cardenas and Nicholas Ribera; grandmother, Pauline Torres Garcia, and his brother-in-law, Ted Castellon. 

John is survived by his heartbroken mother, Elida Garcia Cardenas; his wife, Christina Castellon; his beloved children, Liliana Cardenas, Isabella Cardenas, Angel Ochoa, and Benny "Bubba" Ochoa; his grandson, Christopher King Martinez; his siblings, Cindy Ribera (Anthony), Tony Garcia (Larry), Chris Cardenas (Eloise), and Sophie Cardenas; his nephews, John Chris Cardenas, Jonathan Herrera, Matt Ribera, and Josh Ribera, and many other loving family and friends. 

John grew up in Dove Springs in South Austin. He was raised by his parents who were very family oriented. He grew up to be just as much of a family man himself and made a living as a truck driver. John loved spending time with his family and taking vacations to the beach, fishing and hunting. He loved sitting outside and just listening to music. He also loved football and was a huge fan of his teams, Texas Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys. John had a huge heart and was always willing to help out others. He had numerous family and friends who loved him dearly and he will be truly missed. 

Serving as Pallbearers will be John Chris Cardenas, Jonathan Herrera, Josh Ribera, Anthony Ribera, Ramon Ancira, Santos Morales, Harvey Randle, and George Arnold. Honorary Pallbearer will be Benny “Bubba” Ochoa.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service beginning at 7:00 p.m., at Mission Funeral Home Serenity, 6204 S 1st St. Austin, Texas, 78745.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., at Mission Funeral Home Serenity, 6204 S 1st St. Austin, Texas, 78745.  Burial to follow at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery, 2800 Hancock Dr. Austin, Texas, 78731.
