Q: How did you meet Alicia?
A: I met Alicia at Village on the park at onion creek assisted living facility. My first interaction with her was when I had the sheer pleasure of assisting her at Walmart. I felt like we had an instant connection when I first heard her laugh at one of my silly antics and I looked forward to seeing her on a weekly basis. Once Covid hit and we were no longer able to take the residents out I started working in assisted living 4 days a week on a part time basis and our relationship grew and we bonded over skipbo, crafts, bingo, exercise, and my ridiculous jokes. One of my favorite stories of Alicia was when we were walking to an activity and her Parkinson’s started acting up and was prohibiting her from walking so me being me I decided to start singing to distract her brain .. which worked by the way. When we reached the activity she joyfully exclaimed that she hopes she never has to do that again which prompted another resident to ask her “what walking?” “No” she proclaimed “Barbara’s singing!” We both broke out in laughter and became dear friends ever since! I am forever grateful that I was able to know and love such an amazing person!
