I didn't know Sara personally, but I know one of her grandchildren: Angelica. Angelica is an amazing person. She's able to persevere through constant challenges and is always willing to help others. She has a special way of bringing joy to others, and she's always there when you need her. I think Sara is a large reason Angelia is who she is today—and I know that Angelia would want us all to remember her grandmother in the best way possible: by being kind to one another.

Beloved mother, my final gift to you was a rosary the night I prayed at your wake. I was robbed of the opportunity to say a prayer for you but now have the opportunity to put it in writing. The blessing of an eternal life - John 3:16 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and beloved only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. My mother would often say, “Si dios queire” meaning if the Lord wills it. As a child I didn’t understand that kind of faith or depth of the her faith. As a wife and a mother she left her destiny to the Lord’s will. She worked hard and gave to others who were less fortunate. We didn’t realize at the time this part of town, our part of town – the East side was considered a place where the less fortunate lived. I don’t think any of us realized we were considered the less fortunate. She looked to the Lord to provide for our family and the people she opened our home also. These people were extended relatives and friends who did not have a place to live. My dad would often say, where one person eats we can all eat; meaning a pot of beans and a stack of tortillas always made their way to satiate everyone’s hunger. It reminded me of the loaves and fishes Jesus fed the multitudes with. These people were also strangers she made friends with or my dad did. She had empathy for them and extended a room in our home to them. Giving them a hand up to a future in Austin. I remember a cousin who came back to Austin with nowhere to stay. She was young and an unwed mother with a baby that cried all night. My mother taught her how to soothe a colicky baby. And the guy who worked with my father who had to live in his truck. My mother would make my father extra tacos to share with this stranger. Gifting hospitality to another human being was part of who she was. I share this story with you today because there is eternal life when you look to God the father for direction or as my mom would say, “si dios quere” if the Lord wills it. Turn your gaze upon Jesus, because belief in Jesus, is God’s love gift to humanity. This is the reason why we are to yearn for all that is above, for that’s where Christ sits enthroned at the place of all power, honor, and authority. Christ resurrection is your resurrection too. Rest in peace, mom. Your legacy lives on!

Sarah was one of the finest persons I have ever known. It wasn’t about fame or fortune, it was about character. Doing what was right and relying on God to keep her head above water.
She commented how could I be smart with such a small head. She could always keep me laughing.
God bless you Sarah. We will miss you.

Tia Sara I will miss visiting you. I loved watching you and my mother in law Sylvia crack jokes and make me laugh. Your personality was similar to Sylvia so how could I not love you. I will be here to support your daughters with whatever they need. Good night sweet Sara, I will see you in the resurrection that Jesus promised us.

Grandma I will always remember your love for coke, putting chiles in your tacos and teaching me how to do yard work. I will always remember you hanging up clothes to dry in the back yard. I will always remember you telling us grandkids to behave and go to sleep or else. I will always remember cinnamon tortillas on New Year’s Eve. I will always remember how you could flip tortillas without burning your hand or flinching at the flames. I will always remember your smile and laugh and the love you had for our family. I will always remember that you loved when I spoke Spanish to you. I will always remember your strength and pride. I will always remember how you could be stern, but that you loved me very much. You were proud of your home, your family and where you came from. Grandma I will remember you and cherish you. Thank you for being the rock of our family. We will all miss you. I love you grandma. Love Your grandson, Asdrubal
