Obituary of Julia Hidrogo Limón

Our beloved Julia Hidrogo Limon, age 85, was called home to our Heavenly Father on Saturday, July 9th, 2022. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ignacio Hidrogo and Antonia Garza; and her siblings, Alice Hidrogo, Ramon Hidrogo, and Elisa Hidrogo.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Vidal Vasquez Limon; daughters, Olga (Roland) Cantu, Rosemary (Michael) Flores, Regina (Richard) Galvan, and her son, Raymond Gonzales; brothers, Jose Hidrogo, Eduardo (Sandy) Hidrogo, and Robert Hidrogo; sisters, Susan Flores and Emma Navarro; 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and additional loving family and friends.

Julia Hidrogo Limon was born April 12, 1937 in Austin, Texas. She worked at HEB Grocery, where she always exhibited an impeccable work ethic. She was hardworking and dedicated to her customers throughout her 26 years of service to the company. Upon retirement, Julia became a stay-at-home wife and mother. She loved taking care of her family and was especially proud of her grandchildren.

Mom took pride in everything she did. Settling for anything less than perfection was not part of who she was. Presentation was very important to her; from the visual appeal and taste of her daily home-cooked meals to neatly folded, wrinkle-free clothing, Mom ensured everything was always perfect. She was well-known for her kind, hospitable, and giving nature.

Her hobbies included cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting, cleaning, gardening, and shopping. She loved preparing food for others. Every person that walked through her front door would be greeted and immediately offered food, sweets, and a beverage. If Mom didn’t have food cooked, she would quickly make you anything you’d like. From making fresh, homemade tortillas for her neighbors to giving a cold beverage and snack to the postman, Mom gave selflessly and whole-heartedly every day of her life. Her yard was one of her most prized possessions, and she found great joy in beautifying her outdoor space.

Mom was a devoted, practicing Catholic. For many years she worked with her husband and sisters-in-law to volunteer their time to fundraise for the church. She would cook breakfast for parishioners to enjoy after Sunday masses, and on a few occasions, she was even asked to cook a meal for the visiting priests. Every morning, she woke at 5 o’clock to pray the Holy Rosary in her living room. She’d pray for her family, friends, and anyone in need. The strength of her faith was shown in everything she did. Any time we ate at her table, we would all finish with the words, “Thanks to God”. God was always, and forever will be, invited into Mom’s life.

Mom experienced great joy in maintaining her home and always took very special care of it. Her home was her safe haven and place of comfort. Even in the darkest moments of her illness, she was always able to be herself in her own home. She was content, serene, and at great peace in the home that meant so much to her.

Pallbearers will be John Michael Flores, Pete Limon Gonzales, Nicholas Limon Galvan, Orlando Barron, Daniel Esquivel, Michael Flores, and Richard Galvan. Honorary Pallbearers are Jaclyn Flores Esquivel and Leanna Victoria Gonzales.

Julia was well-taken care of up until her last days here on earth. She was surrounded by her loved ones when she took her last breath, passing away peacefully. On behalf of her family, we extend a very special thank you to her son-in-law, Richard Galvan, for always lending a helping hand and being ready to do so with such a caring heart. We would also like to thank Halcyon Home Care for their wonderful hospice services. Most especially, we extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to her personal caregiver, Sharon Mays. We are eternally grateful for the care and service she provided to our mother. Sharon quickly grew to love our mother, and this was evident in the wonderful way she took care of her.

The following is a poem Sharon wrote while caring for Mom in her last days with us.

Remembering Mrs. Julia A treasure of a memory Is that it will always be there.

Like a heart developed in your chest, You can take it everywhere.

When my heart is heavy And my eyes are filled with tears,

I will focus on a memory that we’ve shared and carry it throughout the years.

My heart can visit the happy times That filled the air with laughter.

My eyes can view the memorable photos that will comfort and ease the pain.

So, as I travel on in life, I will take comfort as you go,

And hold on to the treasured memories And just know that I loved you so!

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 17, 2022, from 4:00-9:00 p.m., with Recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. with Mariachis beginning at 6:00 p.m., at Mission Funeral Home - South Side, 6204  S 1st St. Austin, Texas.

Mass will be held on Monday, July 18, 2022, at 11:00 a.m, at Cristo Rey Catholic Church, 2208 E 2nd St., Austin, Texas. Interment to follow at Assumption Cemetery, 3650 S. IH 35 Frontage Rd., Austin, Texas

Due to the Coronavirus/COVID-19 Restrictions from the City of Austin,

capacity levels are restricted at funeral homes, churches, and cemeteries.

We politely request the continued use of face coverings in an effort to
