Obituary of Susan Requejo

Please share a memory of Susan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

On Friday evening, our dearest Susan made her peaceful transition to heaven. After 18 months of rising to the challenge of cancer, she can now rest easy with the angels in heaven. In her final days she had her arms outstretched, giving hugs to all, and we can only imagine that she was met with the warm embrace of Our Father in heaven, followed by a joyous reunion with her brother Boyce.

Susan grew up in East Austin; attended Palm Elementary School, Martin Jr. High School, and graduated from Austin High School in 1979.  The oldest of four, she paved the way for her sister and brothers, leading them through whatever life may have brought.

Susan began work at the age of 14 with Royal Burger on 7th Street, that opened the doors to many other jobs, from Aquarius Theaters on Pleasant Valley to the discos on Riverside on to Southwestern Bell, Austin Gas & Electric, eventually to the City Of Austin Police Department from APD onto to the community court from which she retired.

In February 2020, her life changed after she was diagnosed with cancer. Through it all, she did live life to the fullest, to include a final trip to Hawaii in August 2021 with her ACTS sisters. The islands graced her with warm and bright sunshine, beautiful ocean waves of blue and the most cherished memories with her ACTS sisters.

Susan's favorite hobbies were football, football and football! She loved cheering for the Texas Longhorns, and Dallas Cowboys. In 2003, she added the A&M Aggies to that list! On Saturdays and Sundays, the tv was loud and she was even louder! Everyone knew not to plan any weddings, parties or events during football season. She cheered on her teams with all her heart and now she has the best seat from above.

More than anything Susan loved her family and friends who became family. If you knew Susan, you knew love. She gave everything she could and everything she had to her family and friends. She was our safe place. Free of judgment, yet honest. Ready to help, but also giving room for us to grow.

Through it all, Susan remained faithful. Her struggle brought complex emotions, but she laughed and cried her way through, relying on her faith and family. Even in her final moments she was trying to find ways to thank everyone for the prayers, support and love she received. Each morning she was gifted, she would say “Good morning Jesus, good morning Mary, good morning Joseph… it’s going to be a beautiful day!” And what a beautiful day it is, to know Susan is safe in the arms of Jesus and forever our guardian angel.

Susan was preceded in death by her sister Rosita T. Requejo, brother Paul Andrew Requejo, and nephew David Anthony Camacho.

She is survived by her parents, Maria T. Requejo and Robert Requejo Sr.; siblings: Christina Camacho (David), Robert Requejo Jr. (Aynee); beloved nieces Catherine Nicole Sundberg (Karl), Nina Marie Camacho, and Stephanie Ann Camacho(Oleg); great nieces and nephews Isabelle Sundberg, Andrew Sundberg, Ivan Camacho and Elisabeth Bolsinger; extended family: Bernice Requejo, Daniel Requejo, Bobbie Requejo, Giovanni Roque, and Brandon Roque; as well as numerous other loving family and friends from the City of Austin, ACTS community and Cristo Rey Catholic Church.
