Obituary of Jose Epifanio Faz III

Joe Faz III, lovingly referred to as "Joe" "Jogie" "Big Babaay," passed away suddenly on October 30 from an accident in Northern California. A native son of East Austin, born August 28, 1961 and an avid fan of Tejano music, Joe was known as a beautiful dancer and the life of every party. Joe Faz was a helper, a man who would stop anything to help his friends and family. As a sports fan, Joe was a consummate Dallas Cowboys fan as well as a fan of the San Antonio Spurs and the Texas Longhorns. He attended many games and made his presence known with a cry of “ BIG BABAAAAAY” Joe Faz III leaves behind him a legacy of love, light and positivity and is a prime example that one man can do immeasurable good in this world with the short time he is given. The effects of his love and generosity will be felt forever. 

He was preceded in death by his father Joe Faz (EL Rey), Paternal Grandpoarents; Jose and Maria Jimenez Faz; Maternal Grandparents; Mauricio and Guadalupe Lopez; as well as aunts, uncles and many other family members.

He is survived by his Mother; Mary L. Faz. He is also survived by his children; Jennifer Faz Vasquez, Michael Olvera (Samantha), Clarissa Schaefer (Fiancé Ricky Sanchez), and Joe Morris Faz ( Alicia). Mr Faz also leaves behind his grandchildren; Jacob Vasquez, Joshua Vasquez, Mya Vasquez, Alanna Olvera, Leo Olvera, Mia Faz and Noah Faz. Joe is also survived by his sisters Margie Faz Luna (and her husband Oscar, and Veronica Faz Sharp (and her husband Nathan) Big Babaaayy also leaves on earth his honorary brother: Rene Verduzco and his Uncles; Robert Lopez and Shorty Mendoza, his Aunts; Mary G. Faz, Teresa Faz, and Annie Bazan. In addition, Joe is survived by his Nieces and nephews Crystal Rodriguez (Henry), Melanie Luna, Iliana Sharp, Jacqueline Sharp, and  Paul Gabriel Sharp. Joe is also survived by his loving dog, Chiquita and his Granddogs: Scarface and Axl. 

Finally, Joe leaves on earth many many more family members and hundreds of loving friends from around East Austin and the world. He will be sorely missed by all.

Pallbearers will be JJ Ruiz, Mike Mokarzel, Tony Gil, Rene Verduzco, John Henry Lopez, and Michael Olvera. Honorary Pallbearer Rey Orta and Elena Zambrano.

Visitation will be held from 4:00-9:00 p.m. with Recitation of Holy Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 19, 2021 at Mission Funeral Home - South Side, 6204 S. First St., Austin, Texas.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at San Jose Catholic Church, 2435 Oak Crest Ave., Austin, Texas.  Public services for Joe will conclude following Mass.

Inurnment is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at Assumption Cemetery, 3650 S. IH 35 Frontage Rd., Austin, Texas.

Due to the Coronavirus/COVID-19 Restrictions from the City of Austin,

capacity levels are restricted at funeral homes, churches, and cemeteries.

We politely request the continued use of face coverings in an effort to

help protect our community.   If you are ill or are concerned about the virus,

it is recommended that you not attend services.

during this very difficult time.
