Obituary of Rosie Arocha Delgado
Rosie Arocha Delgado, was born on August 13, 1931 to Cruz Elijio Diaz and Beatriz Abeita Coronado in East Austin Texas, the oldest of 10 children.
As a little girl Rosie attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic School where she graduated from the 8th grade. After graduating from Middle School, Rosie joined the work force, starting at the family restaurant as a waitress in her early teens, to a housekeeper for the Driskill Hotel, and then as an assembly line worker.
Rosie was a hard worker, and an avid reader, her hard work ethic led her to seek further job growth and training, attending Nurses Aide Training at Brackenridge Hospital, where she worked in Central Supply, leading her to a career in Central Supply.
In 1949, she married Elizel Arocha, and from 1949 to 1957 had 7 children. Rosie instilled the value of education and the love of reading to her children, working hard to make sure all her children were able to graduate from High School.
In 1969 she moved to San Francisco and worked at St. Francis Memorial Hospital, and retired after 25 years of working in the medical field.
In 1979, Rosie met Salvador Delgado who later became her second husband. One of Rosie’s dreams in her early days growing up in Texas, was moving to California and living in a trailer. Together Rosie and Sal lived a simple life in a trailer in American Canyon, California.
In 2009, Rosie became disabled, requiring her and her husband to move into a bigger home, so that a higher level of care could be provided with the support and help of her children Sam, Carolyn, and Rachel.
In 2019, Rosie moved back home to Texas, where she spent her final years being cared for by her daughter Annie and her grandchild, Samantha and her partner Richard. Even with all the challenges she faced, Rosie always persevered. This was one of her many gifts. Rosie was charismatic. She never drank or smoked but was always the life of the party! Rosie loved to talk about her life experiences. Her family loved hearing stories of her young days dancing at the coliseum and Dessau Hall.
Rosie was a real gift to her grandchildren as well, known by them as “Granner”. She was a loving grandma filled with laughter. She was a gift giver, always finding a little trinket to give to someone. Rosie was incredibly generous to her grandchildren. Always giving them small finds that she would find from “la Macys” and other local thrift stores. Rosie was incredibly independent. She loved to get dolled up, always putting on her make-up, doing her hair, and putting on jewelry; especially her bangle bracelets and rings. Rosie loved to drive herself around town, especially when it came to her nails and hair done. Rosie was always surrounded by loving people who cared for and loved her up until her last breath.
On Wednesday September 29, 2021 at the age of age 90, Rosie was called home to our Heavenly Father.
