Obituary of Carmen A. Gutierrez
On Thursday, August 12, 2021, Carmen Gutierrez, passed away at the age of 65. She was a devoted daughter, sister, cousin, friend, wife, sister-in-law, mother, and grandmother.
Carmen was born on July 26, 1956, in Austin, TX. She graduated from Austin High School in 1974 and from Nursing School in 1976. She worked at Brackenridge Hospital traveling through various units such as Neurology and Orthopedics, but her heart landed in the Mother/Baby unit.
Carmen was an extremely gifted woman. The hum of her sewing machine was a familiar sound as she worked on projects ranging from custom outfits for her children and grandchildren to quilts and alterations for friends and family. Her kitchen was filled with the wonderful smells of all the savory meals and sweet treats she prepared. Fluffy pancakes were a frequently requested meal by her grandchildren. Her holiday ‘trash’ was a favorite at Christmas time and her carrot cake was an Easter dream. Carmen was a member of Las Carmelitas at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in East Austin and volunteered with the OLG food pantry. Carmen also had a bit of a competitive edge and enjoyed playing games like Bananagrams, Scattergories, and Yahtzee. A win was often celebrated with an exuberant whoop. She was recently asked how she would describe herself and simply replied “Creative and nice.” We can all wholeheartedly agree.
She is preceded in death by her father, Victor Mokarzel. She is survived by her mother, Senaida Q. Mokarzel, her husband Daniel Gutierrez; her children, Cathie, and her spouse, Larry, David, and Dennis; and her siblings, Carlos, Victor and wife Sylvia, John, Edward and wife Donna, Marialice, Mario and wife Rita, Herbert and wife Cristina and Michael; and her grandchildren, Logan, Iliana, Lorena, Xavier, and Jaxon.
