Tony Guerrero III

Obituary of Tony Guerrero III

Please share a memory of Tony to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Our beloved Tony Guerrero III, loving husband and father of 4, was called home to our heavenly father on Monday, August 2, 2021 at the age of 72. Tony was born Sept 3, 1948 in Austin, TX, to Tony Guerrero Jr. & Amelia Guerrero.

Tony lived a very active life, always on the move and dressed to the tee for any occasion.

Some of Tony's oldest friends & family remember the day's he worked alongside his father, Tony, Jr. at Martin's Drive-In in East Austin. Tony loved to get dressed up and drive around to all the dances with his friends. It was through a friend, Tony saw who became the love of his life, Gloria Guerrero.  After dating for 5 years they were married on September 02, 1973.

While his father stocked the latest records in local jukeboxes, Tony developed a love for music. His parents made his dream come true, giving him his first Mobile DJ setup. During the 70s and 80s, Tony DJ'ed and MC'ed for local events such as the Gillis Park Hillside Concerts and the annual Pan Am Hillside Concerts under the name, TG3 & The Sound Machine. Tony became friends with many of the local Tejano artists bringing them on stage and playing music during their breaks. Tony also had a short radio program in Austin on KGTN radio. Supporting the Tejano Music Movement became a very important part of his life. The Pan Am Hillside Board recently honored Tony for his many years of service to his community.

Besides Music, Tony also loved to drive. Our family was close friends with the VillaseƱor Family and Tony spent his summer's working at Mission Funeral Home. At the young age of 17, during the summer of 1966, Tony braved gunfire to help retrieve the injured and deceased victims of the UT Tower Sniper as an ambulance driver for Mission. His noble act was captured in a photo published in the August 12, 1966 LIFE magazine spread. His professional appearance and ability to navigate his way around central Texas led him to a 20+ year career as a limousine driver. Tony never shied away from an opportunity to take a photo with his passengers, many included top film and TV stars, chart-topping musicians, comedians, presidential administrations and foreign dignitaries.

With such a busy life, Tony still made time for his family, taking yearly summer vacations to visit family throughout Texas & Mexico. Tony also loved to spend hours maintaining his yard. He was proud of his heritage, hometown and especially of his family.

Following in his father's footsteps, Tony was a devout and cherished member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. His strong faith maintained his unwavering positive attitude through his 5-year battle.

In his own words, he loved life.  Tony accomplished so much and cared for so many. He will be deeply missed.

He was preceded in death by his father, Tony Guerrero Jr and mother, Amelia Guerrero.

Tony Guerrero III is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Gloria Guerrero; his children Tony Michael Guerrero IV, Kris Daniel Guerrero and his wife Rosalinda Guerrero, Michelle Rene Guerrero, Kevin Lee Guerrero and his wife Krysta Brixey-Guerrero; his siblings Olga Guerrero, Joe Guerrero (Cindy), Grace Boesenberg (Henry), Viola Duran (John), Nelda Lyons, Rene Guerrero (Angela) and numerous nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.
