Obituary of Maria Teresa "Teri" Aguallo

Please share a memory of Maria to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Teri was called by our Merciful Jesus who she trusted in with a contrite heart on April 11, 2021, which is Divine Mercy Sunday also known as the Feast of the Divine Mercy. This was very fitting and appropriate; and gave us peace.

Maria Teresa Aguallo was born on June 13, 1954 to Manuel and Mary Frances Aguallo in San Antonio, Texas.  She is survived by her son, Raul Aguallo Hernandez and sister, Anna Maria Aguallo.

Teri’s life was an example of the Bible verse “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave You in Christ.”

Following in her family’s footsteps, she was devoted to her work at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.  Being the president of the Guadalupanas was an honor and responsibility that she relished. Teri was a person who believed in her cultural roots and honored her ancestors. She loved her traditions and incorporated strong cultural aspects in church activities. She always protected and preserved the knowledge of the indigenous ways.

Teri was very proud of her professional career.   She worked for many years in her family’s floral business before joining Austin ISD as a teaching assistant.   Her dedication to providing support for students receiving special education was felt by students at Martin Junior High, Andrews Elementary and Austin High School as well as numerous sites for summer school.   Most recently she brought her knowledge of special education and organization to positions at Reagan High School and finally AISD Central Office.

Teri was a wonderful mother, daughter and sister to the core of her being. She always put others before herself. She was a counselor of the soul for those seeking solice. Her comfort and wisdom came from her endless faith in God. She was not just rooted with God’s word but grounded by the Blessed Mother in faith. Teri was very strong willed and absolute in her responses. Her voice was unmistakable. She had a tone of certainty and wisdom.  Her goal in life was to be the best servant of God that she could be.  She lived by example to teach not only her son but anyone who witnessed her actions.

There is no doubt however, that Teri’s proudest and most loved role was being a mother to her son, Raul.

She had countless friends and family that showed their support during her fight with cancer. She always said those prayers helped her during her time of suffering. Teri will be missed by many, but those that knew her will be stronger for the time that she enriched their lives.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made is Teri's memory to The Salesian Sisters of Cristo Rey. Donations can be mailed to 2208 E.. 2nd St.., Austin, Texas 78702.  They may also be dropped off directly at the office of Cristo Rey Catholic Church if more convenient.
