Obituary of Jose T. Monreal
On March 10, 2021 our beloved Jose Torres Monreal, also known by many as "Smokin' Joe" began his journey to the Everlasting Kingdom of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was met at the doorsteps of Heaven by his parents, Pedro and Santos Monreal and his son, Phillip Monreal, Sr.
Jose will be deeply missed by all of his family. His wife of 61 years, Marie A. Monreal; his sons, Jimmy Joe Monreal and Michael Monreal; his daughter, JoAnn Herrera and husband, David; grandchildren, Vanessa Brown and husband, Michael, Desiree Monreal, Phillip Monreal, Jr., David Joseph Herrera, and Genesis Herrera; great grandchildren, Faith, Trinity, Hayden, Carson, Audrina, London, Hendrix and Cashton; brothers, Marcelino, Gabriel, Tony, and Frank; sisters, Anita, Nina, Angie, Janie, Patsy, Sandy, Terry, Carmen, and Margaret, and numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family and friends.
Jose worked at Kash-Karry Grocery Store & Quality Seafood Market. Jose was a life long gift to his community, shaping the lives of many being a Boy Scout troop leader, President of the Montopolis Lions Club, Montopolis and East Side Little League, senior league baseball coach, and countless other activities at Dolores Catholic Church, cooking and serving with the Familia Monreal Breakfast Group, cooking bar-b-que for the church Jamiaca, cooking for fish fry's during lent and a volunteer as an usher during Sunday Services.
Jose had a passion for bar-b-que, he would hook up his 300 gal bar-b-que pit trailer, named the "Mexican Microwave," participating in events around Austin, Manor, Pflugerville, San Marcos, Granger and Creedmor, selling brisket tacos, funnel cakes, and kettle korn. Smokin' Joe had the following of family and friends who waited in line for a delicious brisket taco.
Jose used his carpentry skills and began building his own home in the Montopolis neighborhood. With the help of family and friends, Jose completed construction in 1977. Through the years, Jose remodeled and built on additions and was very proud to sit on the porch of the home he built for his family.
May you rest in peace, Smokin' Joe.
Honored Pallbearers will be Jimmy "BJ" Monreal, Michael Monreal, David Herrera, David Joseph Herrera, Phillip Monreal, Jr., and Tony Monreal.
