Obituary of Rebecca "Becky" Martinez

Please share a memory of Rebecca "Becky" to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Rebecca “Becky” Martinez, 56, of Manchaca, Texas gained her angel wings on February 17, 2021.

She was born February 29, 1964 (a leap year baby) and lived in Manchaca her entire life. She was the fifth of seven children, born to Margarito F. and Mary Cruz Martinez and joins her father and many other loved ones in heaven.

Becky attended Manchaca Elementary, Bedichek Jr. High and David Crockett High School (class of 1983). Shortly after high school graduation, she was employed by Advanced Micro Devices for 18 years.

She was an active member of St. Ignatius Church as a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Christ Renews His Parish (CRHP Team 3) group.

Becky was many things–a daughter her parents were proud of, a sister who loved hard but was not shy about speaking her mind, a favorite tia (aunt) who listened to and loved playing with her nieces and nephews. She was a caregiver to her grandma Acosta, nieces, nephews, and a few cousins. Becky’s parents taught the importance of family and she modelled that concept endlessly, serving as the family historian, researching her extensive family tree and maintaining old pictures of previous generations.

Becky was creative and could make just about anything; decorating the house for every occasion and sewing Halloween costumes. Her cooking was fabulous (she was the one who cooked most like her mama) and her baked goods were always available on Sundays for all to enjoy.

She had a love for family gatherings and often took charge of all the arrangements. We have fond memories of some of the best Easter gatherings where we would play many games such as bingo, balloon toss, sack races, volleyball, washers and baseball along with contests for both the adults and children. On Christmas, she was Santa Claus for the kids. For Valentine’s Day, she would make homemade cards and mail them to all the nieces and nephews.

Becky loved music and dancing–anything from Rod Stewart, Elton John, John Fogerty, jazz, country and of course, Tejano music. She liked to watch sports and was a Dallas Cowboys fan and a hard-core Texas Rangers fan. A few of her favorite baseball players were Pudge Rodriguez and Delino DeShields Jr. but her favorite player of all time was Pete Rose ("Charlie Hustle").

Becky is survived by her Mother Mary Cruz Martinez, sisters Anita Otero (Tito), Esther Maldonado (Albert), Bertha Torres, Christina Espinoza (Antonio), Reynalda Torres (Jimmy), brother Margarito Felix Martinez (Kathryn), boyfriend Alex Cuellar, nieces and nephews Joey Martinez (Jamie), Nicole Guerrero (Joshua), Albert Maldonado II, Eric Maldonado (Cecilia), Jessica B. DeLeon (Christopher), William Otero and Laura Espinoza, as well as many great nieces and nephews.

To know Becky was to be blessed and we will miss her every single day in the months and years to come. We will not forget her, for she left her footprint on our hearts. We love you, Becky!
