Obituary of Rufino S. Escobedo
Our beloved Rufino Salas Escobedo Sr., age 81, was called home to our Heavenly Father, on Monday, January 25, 2021.
Rufino was born and raised, in Stamford, Texas, on July 10, 1939. He began his football career for the Stamford High Bulldogs, and was chosen to play with the All-American Football Team. He went on to play for the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs, where he then decided to join the National Guard to serve his country. He retired as a contractor for EscoPlastering.
Rufino was preceded in death by his parents, Benito Reveles Escobedo and Juana Salas Escobedo; grandchildren, Joshua James Escobedo, and Magdleno Escobedo; grandson-in-law, Ray Garcia; siblings, Nati Salas Escobedo, Rupierta “Ruby” Escobedo Torres, Alfredo Escobedo, Bernardino “Berny” Escobedo, Elias “Shorty” Escobedo, and Francis Alvarez; sisters-in-law, Varista Escobedo and OlgaEscobedo; brother-in-law, Henry Perez; nephews, Armando Torres Sr., Ralph Torres, Elias Jr., and Robert; and by his niece, Cathy Escobedo.
Rufino is survived by his loving wife, of 60 years, Irma Garcia Escobedo; adoring children, Rufino “Ruffy” Escobedo Jr., and wife Emlyn, Steven Julian Escobedo, and wife Terri, and Timothy Dwayne “Timbo” Escobedo Sr., and former wife, Sylvia; grandchildren, Rufino “R.T.” Escobedo III, Veronica Reed, and husband Cody, Stephanie Lanette Sapp, and husband Jason, Staci Regalado, and husband J.R., Jennifer Nicole Garcia, Timothy Escobedo Jr., and Steven Jeremiah Escobedo, and wife, Crystal; great-grandchildren, Jordyn Marie Escobedo, Wyatt Reed, Layton Reed, Weston Reed, Abigail Sapp, Madison Sapp, Sariah Regalado, Val Regalado, Izaiah Regalado, Sadie Garcia, Sarah Garcia, Joshua Garcia, and Katlina Escobedo; sibling, Mercedes Perez; as well as numerous other loving family members, and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m., Thursday, February 4, 2021, with Recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m., at Mission Funeral Home Serenity Chapel, 6204 South First St. Austin, TX 78745. Scripture Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 5, 2021, also at Mission Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
The family is so grateful to everyone for their understanding, love, and support during this very difficult time. In lieu of flowers donations are being accepted towards the funerals services for Mr. Escobedo.

capacity levels are restricted at funeral homes, churches, and cemeteries.
Each person entering the funeral home, church, and cemetery will be required to wear a mask
and to practice social distancing of 6 feet or more. If you are ill or are concerned about the virus,
it is recommended that you not attend services.
