Obituary of Raul Cruz Miranda

Our beloved Raul Cruz Miranda, age 73, was called to our Heavenly Father on Sunday, January 17, 2021. He was born in Cotulla, Texas, raised his family first in Kingston, Illinois then in Austin, Texas and relocated to Kyle, Texas after his retirement from the Austin Independent School District in 2013. Raul was known by many names to his family and friends over the years:  Jito, Grandpa, Reno, Rulé, Tio, Uncle, Primo, Carnal. Anybody who knew him or even saw him proudly walking by in full gear, knew that he was the biggest Pittsburgh Steelers fan (boo Cowboys!). Raul will be forever remembered and loved by his family and friends. All prayers and wishes are greatly appreciated.

Raul is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Irene Fabian Miranda (Rina & Reno); his children, Diana Miranda, Rachel Miranda, and James Hernandez; grandchildren, Olivia Maricel Miranda, Madison Olivia Miranda, James A. Hernandez, Jr., Kirsten G. Hernandez, Katilynn J. Hernandez, Robert "Bobby" Hernandez, Jr., Melanie Serrano, and Cecilia Serrano; great grandchildren, Julianna Hernandez, Gianna Hernandez, Dominic Ace Hernandez Torres, Brianna Parker, Mariah Parker, Makayla Parker, and Diego Serrano; his brothers, Joel Miranda and Jose Miranda; his sisters, Juanita Garza, Isa Fierros, Rosemary Deschamp, Yolanda Torres, Maria Eufemia Bennett, and Maria Eva Miranda.  Raul is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Meliton and Virginia Miranda, and his siblings, Antonio Miranda, Arturo Miranda, Meliton Miranda, Jr., Teresita Miranda, Idolina Miranda, and Maria Elena Miranda; his son, Robert "Bobby" Hernandez, Sr. and daughter, Christine R. Serrano.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-9:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Mission Funeral Home - South Side, 6204 S. First St., Austin, Texas.

Additional visitation will be held from 8:00-10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at Mission Funeral Home - South Side with interment to follow at 10:30 a.m. at Assumption Cemetery, 3650 S. IH 35 Frontage Rd., Austin, Texas.

Due to the Coronavirus /  COVID-19 Restrictions from the City of Austin,

capacity levels are restricted at funeral homes, churches, and cemeteries.

Each person entering the funeral home, church, and cemetery will be required to wear a mask

and to practice social distancing of 6 feet or more.   If you are ill or are concerned about the virus,

it is recommended that you not attend services. 

The family is so grateful to everyone for their understanding, love, and support

during this very difficult time.
