Obituary of Katharine "Katie" King

Please share a memory of Katharine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Katharine Legendre King, 91, passed away last December 26th in Austin, Texas.

Born in New Orleans in 1929, she was the daughter of Armant and Olive Legendre. Her father owned Legendre Brothers Coffee.  In her youth, his work led the family to Brazil.  Later, after returning  to the United States, she attended Foxcroft  Academy in Middleburg, Virginia and Newcomb College  in New Orleans.

With her distinctive New Orleans accent, beaming smile and one of a kind laugh,  K.K. met the world head on and generally found it to be “Absolutely  wonderful” .

Always laughing and never boring, she was a lady and a Mardi Gras queen who knew that happiness is a thing that doesn’t come looking for you, you have to chase it.  She knew that life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass.

Katharine leaves behind  three daughters, Anne Martindale Chambers Crenshaw, Christy Graham Chambers Trautwein , Katharine Armant Chambers Beasley,  and a son, Hennen Legendre Chambers.  Her youngest son, Charles Carroll Chambers preceded her in passing.

Her sister, Anne Armstrong of Armstrong, Tx., and brother, James Legendre of New Orleans also preceded her in passing.

A Memorial Service in her honor will be held on Sunday, August 8, 2021 at Mission Funeral Home - South Side, 6204 S. First St., Austin, Texas.
