Obituary of Albert James Amezquita

Our beloved Albert James Amezquita, age 71, of Austin Texas, was called to our Heavenly Father on Monday, November 16, 2020.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Amezquita Sr. and Rosaura Salas Amezquita; his siblings, Louis Amezquita Jr., Joseph Amezquita, and Rosie Amezquita Villegas.

Albert is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Margaret Mendieta Amezquita; his children, Michelle Amezquita Navarro and husband Aaron, Amanda Amezquita Pineda and husband Zachary; his brothers, Steven Amezquita and wife Stacy, Michael Amezquita and wife Pat; and sister-in-laws Becky and Hermelinda, his honorary sisters, Amelia Alba and Manuela Black; his grandchildren, Olivia Navarro, Felix Pineda, Penelope Pineda, and Esmeralda Pineda, and many more loving family and friends.

Albert, an Austinite, born and raised in the heart of East Austin was a proud graduate of Albert Sydney Johnston High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Margaret and together they raised two beautiful daughters, Michelle and Amanda.

Albert held three core values near and dear to his heart that guided him through his life…Family, Faith, and Love. He always had a warm smile and possessed a presence that would fill a room. His personality was strong and bold, but his soft heart was like a teddy bear. Albert’s faith played an important role in his life. He attended Our Lady of Guadalupe and served as an Altar Boy for many years. As an adult, he helped with CCD classes alongside his wife. Albert was a Godfather, not only to members of his own family but to other children as well.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He worked hard all of his life to provide for his family, at times working two jobs. After graduation, he began working for Rosita’s Tamales, the family business. Later, he became an operator for Capital Metro. Albert was an awesome cook, a skill he inherited from his mom. He loved to travel, decorate for the holidays, and would patiently shop with his girls for hours. He especially loved his spending time with his grandchildren Olivia, Felix, Penelope and Esmeralda.

As a football player at Johnston High School, he was known as “Big Al”, #72. His team won several titles for Johnston High School. Later, he became a dedicated Longhorn fan, and cheered them on every Saturday.

After retirement, he become a caregiver to his one and only grandson, Felix. He would love and care for Felix during the first year of Felix’s life and still manage to get a meal on the table for everyone by the end of the day. He brought such joy to the little ones at Christmas Time, he was our personal Loving Santa. When he appeared, his beaming face would light up and you could “feel” Santa.

The best way to sum up Albert’s life is that he was “one of a kind”. A big guy with a big presence with a heart of gold. Always ready to help. He added so much to all of our lives. Our days will never be the same without him. He is no longer suffering and that brings a lot of peace and comfort. When he reached the gates of heaven, we know he was greeted with open arms, and that he was ready to serve the Lord.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 2, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m.,  at Mission Funeral Home, 1615 E Cesar Chavez St., Austin, Texas 78702.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place the following morning, Thursday, December 3, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1206 E. 8th St., Austin, Texas 78702.

Interment to follow at Assumption Cemetery, 3650 S IH-35 Frontage Road, Austin, Tx 78704.

Due to the Coronavirus /  COVID-19 Restrictions from the City of Austin,

capacity levels are restricted at funeral homes, churches, and cemeteries.

Each person entering the funeral home, church, and cemetery will be required to wear a mask

and to practice social distancing of 6 feet or more.   If you are ill or are concerned about the virus,

it is recommended that you not attend services.
