My husband did some work for her over 40 years ago. He fell in love with her artwork and asked to be paid in a drawing. Her beautiful drawing of two little Mexican girls have been in my house for 30 years now. It is my most cherished art work. I was looking to see if more of her art work is available only to learn of her passing. I feel lucky to have found the story behind the artist. Wishing much comfort to the family.

The Morales family sends our condolences. Dorothy was a gem. Karen loved her so much and still considers her one of her "best best best friends" ever. She will be missed and treasured in our memories. Until we meet again, dear lady.

Dorothy Turner was my Aunt Dot. As kids, my brother and I always looked forward to our time with her. A visit always included good food, specially planned outings, and lots of attention. We were privileged to have her live with us when she was transitioning from Mexico back to the US. She taught me how to cook some of her dishes, painted our portraits, and fussed at me for washing the glasses so fast that the bottoms were still cold! I’ll never forget my first trip to Mexico escorted by my Aunt. We had so much fun together and brought back lots of treasures! Aunt Dot was very smart and studious, she had a never ending curiosity, and a big heart. She was one of those people who would give you the shirt off her back if you needed it. My mother was her oldest sister and loved her dearly. When mother was facing death, she was so worried about Dot being alone. I know my mother would be pleased to know that not only has Dot’s family rallied around her, over the years, but her dear friends have been very much a family for her as well. Thank you to everyone who has loved her over the years. She was very blessed.

I'd like to say I will miss her I was a very young kid when her and my aunt Linda Hughes met or probably not even thought of yet My experience of Dorothy #ARTIST# is she was a warm hearted person , obviously a very caring person too I'm saddened that she is no longer with us physically but in my heart of continuing my journey in this life I'll always keep in mind and in my heart that good people do and has existed I totally love a person like Dorothy that has shared her heart and talents with many. So GOD BLESS YOU ARTIST I will not forget you , even when I pass by on the street where your home once was I still find myself looking that way because it was something I was used to when leaving my grandmother's house. I know I will never stop looking that way. I pray we see each other one day again but until then my friend your job is done and you done it well may God bless your entire family and friends and allow them to press ahead because we all know sadness is not something you'd like us to rely on at this time because you we're a happy person. #And an AMAZING ARTIST. I'm lighting you a green candle to share with my mom because she liked green and I know I can count on you to share your candle with her REST IN PEACE

Artist, Artist, Artist! You will be missed! I had a turbulent relationship with you as a child, only because you would correct me for wrongdoing as a parent would, so I couldn't get away with anything! But I did love the outings you took us on, and how important you made the world around us seem, showing us art, anywhere we looked. And then I came to appreciate you when I became an adult, realizing what a special and understated person you were. You were so humble and never told us you had a PhD! We found that out for ourselves. As an adult, I realized how much you truly loved us neighborhood children, and how we must have challenged and rewarded your efforts. You also became a good friend. It was kind of wild, relating to you as an adult, but you always showed such interest in our lives and our own children, you were truly a lovely human being. Thank you for enriching my life with art and music and woodcarving and tiling and crafting and oh so many things. And I love that you lived till nearly 98! You amazed us all!

I met Dorothy as a young child in the 70's and am honored to say that our relationship lasted for the rest of her days. When we were kids we spent many hours at her home, doing arts and crafts, playing music, and modeling for her portraits. She put our portraits in art shows and won many awards. She didn't want us to call her Ms. Turner and our parents wouldn't allow us to call her by her first name, so we called her 'Artist'. Artist taught me how to fish, to play the recorder and to appreciate fossils we hunted for in nature. She packed our bikes onto her VW and took us bike riding on trails. Artist's house was our favorite place to escape and play. She didn't have any children of her own so she 'adopted' many children in the neighborhood. Her artwork has memorialized our childhood days and I will miss her joyful and loving spirit.
