Obituary of Leopoldo L. Martinez, Sr.
Leopoldo Martinez Lopez, Sr., 80, passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2020. After a brief battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer, Leopoldo died peacefully with his beloved family by his side.
Leopoldo was born to parents Lorenzo and Amalia Martinez on February 10, 1940 in Iramuco, Guanajuato, Mexico.
While working as a baker, he met his soon-to-be wife, Reina. They had three children, Olga, Ramiro and Mario. His first marriage ended after Reina passed away.
It was at a wedding that Leopoldo would meet his second wife, Maria De Los Angeles Huerta. Maria De Los Angeles Huerta had two children from a previous marriage, Yolanda and Jose, who Leopoldo raised as his own.
Leopoldo is survived by his wife of 51 years Maria De Los Angeles Martinez; children, Olga Martinez; Yolanda Samago and her husband, Carmelo; Jose Cruz; Mario Martinez and his wife, Leonor; Laura Martinez; Susana Ponce and her husband, Armando; Estefania Trevino and her husband, Jesus F., Jr.; Olivia Martinez; and Leopoldo Martinez, Jr. and his wife, Blanca; 25 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; siblings, Fernando, Lorenzo, Amalia, Armando, Eduardo and Armida Martinez Lopez; as well as many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
Leopoldo is preceded in death by his first wife Reina Martinez; son, Ramiro Martinez; granddaughter, Gabrielle Mareea Martinez, grandson, Mario Ramiro Martinez; siblings Guadalupe, Sara, Heriberto and Eleazar Martinez Lopez; parents, Lorenzo and Amalia Martinez.
Visitation for Leopoldo Martinez will be held at Mission Funeral Home – South side, 6204 S. First Street, Austin, TX 78702 on Sunday, October 11, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 6:00 p.m.
Funeral mass will be held at San Jose Catholic Church, 2435 Oak Crest Avenue, Austin, TX 78704 on Monday, October 12, 2020, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Those who will attend Mass are requested to arrive at church no later than 12:00 for Covid-19 screening and seating.

Due to the Coronavirus / COVID-19 Restrictions from the City of Austin,
capacity levels are restricted at funeral homes, churches, and cemeteries.
Each person entering the funeral home, church, and cemetery will be required to wear a mask
and to practice social distancing of 6 feet or more. If you are ill or are concerned about the virus,
it is recommended that you not attend services.
