Obituary of Eleno R Moreno

Please share a memory of Eleno to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sorrow that we announce that our amazing father, grandfather and patriarch, Magdaleno (Eleno) “Popo” Rodriguez

Moreno Sr., 85, of Austin, TX, passed away on September 16, 2020 in Del Valle, Texas.

Eleno was born in Creedmoor, TX to Dionicio Moreno and Herminia Rodriguez on July 22, 1935. He married Gloria Gamez Contreras on August 14, 1955 in Austin, TX.  He was employed at Glastron Boats for a number of years, Mrs. Baird Bread for 10 years, and was employed by Acoustic Systems for over 30 years at which he retired from.

Eleno was a hardworking man, at times maintaining multiple jobs in order to afford his family a comfortable life. People who knew him best also knew him as a quick witted and funny man in which they could always expect a laugh or a smile. Popo got to travel a lot throughout his life with his wife, Gloria and they created many experiences that we knew they cherished. He loved watching his children grow up throughout the years and loved being a grandpa to all of his grandchildren. He was a smart man who liked to fix things on his own and enjoyed helping others with his handy skills. He loved listening to music and would whistle along to his favorite tunes. Popo was an amazing man with a big heart. Despite everything he went through in his life, he would always try to make the best of the situation with humor, love, and acceptance. He was the voice of reason at times, was not too quick to judge others and accepted people for who they were and it is these attributes that brought him much love and respect. We will always remember the man he was and the special role he played in our lives.

Eleno was survived by his children Joe Louis (Stella) Moreno, Pricilla (Michael) Kennedy, Magdaleno “B.B.” (Marina) Moreno Jr., Margaret (Martin) Castillo, Chenny Zapata ; his 13 grandchildren; his 17 great-grandchildren; his 4 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, as well as other loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beautiful, loving wife of 65 years, Gloria Contreras; his parents Dionicio Moreno and Herminia Rodriguez; his grandsons Jonas Alonzo and Jaime Dominic Castillo; his siblings Guadalupe (Ester) Moreno and Rita (Jose) Ibarra and his daughter-in-law Irma Moreno.
