Obituary of George Ruiz III
Our Beloved George Ruiz III, age 80, of Austin, Texas, was called by our Heavenly Father on Thursday, August 27, 2020.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Esther Ruiz, parents, George and Eva Ruiz, and his children George Ruiz IV and David Wayne Ruiz.
He is survived by his child Gilbert Ruiz and his wife Norma. His blended family of Jesse M. Torres, Jr “JT”, Cecilia Pimentel and her husband, David, Susan Torres, and Thomas B. Torres and his wife, Becky; many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces and great great nephews and his siblings, Caroline “Quina” Montes and her husband Quirino “Reno” Montes, Jane Gonzales, Tomasa Shapiro, and Albert Ruiz.
George was born in Nursery, Texas the oldest of his siblings. As a young boy he helped his father with farming duties and was very studious. He collected comic books and played “cowboys and indians” with his cousins and always pretended he was Rocky Lane, the famous cowboy actor. He was attending college in Kingsville,TX when he was called to serve his country. He served in the Vietnam War and later retired as a Major in the US Army. He continued to advocate for soldiers and their families after his retirement. He was a loyal and humble servant of San Jose Parish and volunteered for many years on the San Jose Parish Finance Committee. George devoted his life to his “corazon” Mary Esther Ruiz, his wife of 37 years.
George and Mary were regulars at most of the UT tailgates and games for many years. George was an avid runner and completed many races, the Capitol 10 K race was one of his favorites.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 31, 2020 with Recitation of Holy Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m., Mission Funeral Home Serenity Chapel, 6204 S. First St., Austin, Texas. Rosary will be streamed live on Facebook follow Mission Funeral Home South Side Facebook Live
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at 1:00 p.m., San Jose Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
