Obituary of Diana Soliz
"Well, pish... if you're reading this, then I've been taken, kicking and screaming into that good night. (I was never good with things out of my control.) Yes, I wanted more time but I must admit, the time I had was glorious!
Born in San Antonio on Leap Year Day 1956, I was raised by paternal grandparents, (you thought I was gonna say wolves, didn't you?), and had a fantastic family, both blood and chosen. I did the usual high school extracurriculars: theatre, cheerleading, partying in the cow pastures; attended UT and then finished my degree through employers and with pure stubborness.
My dream was to be an actress. Did pretty well in high school and college but common sense and life took over. I found my second calling when I became a financial advisor. Who woulda thunk that I, the theatre buff, would love playing with numbers? But I was pretty good at it and actually got paid for it so what more could I ask for?
I went through a "public service" period during the 90's: Head of the Mayor's Economic Commission, Board Member of the following: Kidney Foundation; MAD, Bank consortium; financial reporter and contributor to La Prensa, (I TOLD you the area would be gentrified!): ALLGO: but I'm most proud of creating, with our board members, the Austin GL Chamber of Commerce; (I was presidcent of Stonewall Business Society at the time and I felt this would give us more credibility and financial power.)
Wife, friends, and family? Ah, now here is where I hit the jackpot. My friends are the people that most people dream of having: always supportive, always making me laugh, always wanting to help. My family always checked up on me. But my wife, Sidni, is the best person in the world and she fell in love with me. How's that for winning life's lotto? For 39 years, we went through so many wonderful adventures and got through the tough times too. Thank you for all the beautiful islands in which we snorkeled. Those were my favorite and most peaceful times. I'll admit: Leaving her breaks my heart most of all. So, I ask my friends and family: please take care of her for me. She's gonna need you.
So I say good bye for now with two song lyrics: "We'll meet again. Don't know where don't know when, but I know we'll meet again some sunny day." (and from Siouxie Sioux) "Kiss them for me...I may be too late..." Besos Y Abrazos! "
