Obituary of Paul Andrew Requejo

Please share a memory of Paul to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

On Thursday, August 13th, the sun set for the last time for our dear Paul Andrew “Boyce” Requejo. Our family is beyond heartbroken. We are finding comfort that he is no longer in pain, that he is indeed healed and made whole again.

Boyce grew up in East Austin and he attended Palm Elementary, Martin Jr. High and Austin High School... a true East Sider. Growing up he enjoyed hanging out with his friends, listening to Ruben Ramos and Little Joe. He would play football in the street and stay out until the lights turned on. Everywhere he went he made friends. He enjoyed watching wrestling with his brother and especially when his nieces joined him. As friends grew older and families grew bigger, he knew them all, your family became his family. And you knew if you were family, he gave you a nickname or two. What we wouldn’t give to hear him say our names one more time.

Boyce was so proud when his nieces Nickie and Stephanie enlisted in the Air Force and when Nina graduated from Texas A&M. Boyce was their biggest fan. He questioned but never judged them. He may have been a Longhorn, but he sure did defend the Aggies through and through.

There was nothing he wouldn’t do for his family. When his nieces were in town and hungry, he walked with them to get snacks from the Bread Basket, pickles from Mr. Mac’s, and pink cakes from Joe’s Bakery. When his brother wanted to grab lunch together, he made time. When it was New Year’s Eve, he put on a show for the whole neighborhood. When there was tension in a room, he was there to make us laugh. When you thought no one was listening to you, he heard you. When he said, “Let me ask you something”, you couldn’t even predict what question would follow, but you knew that he was genuinely interested in your thoughts. Boyce cared so much for us all, without judgment and without expecting anything in return. Boyce truly loved unconditionally.

More than anyone, he loved his Mama. He would call her to check on her and she looked forward to his call every day. They always laughed together when he called himself, God’s Little Soldier.

May we all be at peace that God’s Little Soldier is home.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Rosita Requejo and nephew David Anthony Camacho.
