Obituary of Marcella "Margie" Moreno
Our beloved, Marcella "Margie" Moreno, age 91, was called to our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, July 28, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Pete Moreno; her parents, Atanacio and Herlinda Ramirez; her great granddaughter, Ashlie Esquitin, and her siblings, Nicolasa Gonzales, Martha Alvarado, Ignacia "Nancy" Castellon, Richard Ramirez, and Frank Ramirez.
Margie is survived by her loving children, Helen Flores and her husband, Benjamin, Ernest Moreno, Pete Moreno, Jr. and his wife, Nora, and Judy Moreno; grandchildren, Daniel Flores and his wife, Lacey, Sonia Ward, Melissa Moreno, Michael Moreno and his wife, Roxy, Marcus Moreno and his wife, Emily, Pete Jason Moreno, Amanda Rendon, and Domonique Rendon; great grandchildren, Sofia Flores, Benjamin Blake Flores, Lauryn Ward, Tyson Hampton, Isaac Lomeli, Nathan Moreno, Michaela Moreno, and Brooke Moreno; her special friend, Luis Martinez; her sister, Julia Garza; her brothers, Sisto Ramirez and T.C. Ramirez, and many other loving family members and friends.
If you were to visit Margie at any time of the day, as many women from her generation, after the affections and greetings, it was commonplace to be asked if you are hungry. Even if you weren't, you dare not argue with her. She could make a meal in minutes, especially any kind of taco wrapped in her homemade tortillas. As much as her family tried to replicate her recipes, it could not be done. She didn't have a "recipe," it was as natural to her as putting on lipstick. Christmas of 2019, at 90 years old, she made 44 dozen tamales, all by herself, a mere franction of what she used to make in the years prior. Pouring her hot sauce on your food was a gamble, the heat intensity could make grown men cry. Besides loving to cook and being a talented seamstress, Margie could be described as a social butterfly. It was easy for her to strike up a conversation with a complete stranger, and she loved to admire babies. She was active, often walking miles, tending her rose bushes, cleaning her spotless home, and before Covid, enjoying Jazzercise. She hated Covid because not only did it keep her at home, it cancelled the casino bus trips that she loved and looked forward to. She kept herself busy by sewing masks for her friends, family and community. Family often offered to have her stay with them, but she preferred her independence. She may have been a bit sassy, fiesty, forthcoming, and spirited, but she loved her family fiercely. She was the martriarch of our family and will be missed beyond measure.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Michael Moreno, Daniel Flores, Marcus Moreno, Pete Jason Moreno and her nephews, Joe Ramirez and James Ramirez. Honorary Pallbearers will be her granddaughters, Melissa Moreno, Sonia Ward, Amanda Rendon, and Domonique Rendon.
