Nellie Valdez age 78 was born in Buda, Texas. She was raised in Austin and was wed at the age of 21 to Pedro Lopez Valdez in 1946 after he returned from serving in WW2 in the European Theatre. They began their life together in east Austin then moved in the mid-1950s to north .Austin where she died. She is survived by 7 children: Pedro Valdez, Jr. of Honolulu, Hawaii; Jesse Valdez of Pflugerville, Texas; Mary Guadalupe Ledesma of Bastrop, Texas; Eva Martinez, Adam Valdez, Viola Williams and Rene Valdez of Austin; Grandchildren: Geoffrey Valdez, Aaron Valdez, Anna Lee Valdez, Marisa Ledesma, Victoria Ledesma, Raymond Martinez, Eva Marie Castillo, Alex Martinez, Dom Valdez, Antonio Valdez, Bianca Valdez, Patrick Valdez, Jessica Sedillo, JR Sedillo, Veronica Sedillo and Adriana Sedillo (deceased). Additionally she was blessed with 20 great-grandchildren all living except for Kelton Valdez who died in Sep 2002. She is also survived by a sister, Stella Garcia of Phoenix, Arizona and Frank Sanchez of Austin, Texas. Her husband and father of her children, Pedro Valdez, preceded her in death as did her siblings: Henry, Sara, Oralia, Lucia and Pablo. She spent her lifetime maintaining a household for her family as wife and mother as well as bringing in a paycheck for the family budget with myriad employment, the longest of which was as an employee of Glastron Boat Company. She was a devout catholic, believed in God and always maintained a family altar to Our Lady of Guadalupe in her bedroom. Nellie prided herself with cleanliness and a very opinionated personality, one which not always found favor with those around her. Her memory will live on with those that love her and with those that didn't love her so much. She was a good woman, doing the best she could given the hand she was dealt in life. We will miss Nellie, especially her tamales, tortillas and Spic 'N Span attitude. Muchas gracias Nellie, que en paz descanses.
