Obituary of Rudolfo "Rudy" Verdeja Sontoya

Our beloved Rudy Verdeja Sontoya, age 72, was called to our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, May 13, 2020. He was preceded in death by his sons, Michael Valadez and John Valadez; his parents, Heliodoro, Jr. and Aurora Verdeja Sontoya; his brother-in-law, Daniel Cordova and his Nephew, Joel Castilleja.

Rudy is survived by his wife of 47 years, Christine Rosales Sontoya; his children, Norma Jean Sontoya and Rudy Sontoya, Jr.; his grandchildren, Stephanie Lynn Sontoya, Valentino Arrellano, Mariah Sontoya, Rudy Sontoya, III, Michael Valadez, and Joe David Valadez; his brother, Lee Sontoya; his sisters, Ida Sontoya and Linda Cordova, and many nieces, nephews, other loving family members and friends.

Pallbearers will be John Albert Castilleja, Daniel Cordova, Jr., Tony Sontoya, José Martín Lugo,  Gilbert Guerrero, John Rudy Reyes, Patrick John Colunga and Rubén Aleman, Jr.  

Public Visitation will be held from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at Mission Funeral Home - South Side, 6204 S. First St., Austin, Texas.  Recitation of Holy Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 19, 2020 and will be live streamed via facebook at Mission Funeral Home - South Side.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at St. Julia Catholic Church, 900 Tillery St., Austin, Texas.  Interment will follow at Marines Verdeja Cemetery in Kingsbury, Texas.

Due to the Coronavirus /  COVID-19 Restrictions from the City of Austin,

Visitation and Mass are limited in capacity.

Visitation is limited to 60 people and Mass is limited to 75

Mass at St. Julia Catholic Church each person

entering will be required to wear a mask.  Masks are also required at the funeral home.

The family is so grateful to everyone for their understanding, love, and support

during this very difficult time.
