Uncle Gordy was a gentle giant! I remember him in his City of Austin uniform and straw cowboy hat. I remember numerous times spent with him, Aunt Terry and the cousins when they lived on East 3rd and Comal. We played outdoors, we were across the street at the park, went to corner store and I, personally, felt his stability. He and Aunt Terry started my love for the Texas Longhorns. Piling up in the back of his truck with my siblings, Jesse, Bebe and Anna with ice chest that contained lunch meat & bread, yellow puff chips and drinks. We drove out to Texas Memorial Stadium (official name of the stadium back when we went), tailgated and got seats in the end zone (on the grass). We ran around the track at the stadium and got on the field and of course, cheered for the Longhorns. I also remember weekend trips to Sears at Hancock Center. He would buy us fresh popcorn and candy while he shopped for tools and such at the store. He was quiet but said a lot. His love and labor for the City of Austin is so special. He was actively always giving back to the Austin community (cousin Anna kept me in the loop about all his duties). Based on all the stories I've heard lately, he was a great father to his kids and I thank him for providing that for my cousins. Praying for you!
